M2M NEXG suddenly not connecting to B2

Post by Sexyjesus »

Hey guys, been playing around with this the last few days, and it seems like I'm suddenly not receiving B2. Nothing changed other than some subpar weather the last few days (I.E. wind and quite a bit of rain). Using the 2x 15 dBi panel antennas, M2M NEXG, and EM7576 modem. I seem to no longer be picking B2 - when band locking just B2 with ATT, it drops from a 20MHZ width to 15MHZ and doesnt seem to register. Also shows 1076 instead of 700 mhz. I played with antenna positioning/distance apart for the last few hours and can't seem to get anything to fix this issue. I received the email about the M2M needing firmware upgraded to the new 2020 firmware, so I did that this morning as well. I have yet to upgrade firmware for the modem itself as it still has the original firmware from vendor. Just at a loss for whats going on, as this started about 3 days ago prior to the weather taking a turn for the worse. Also don't seem to be picking up the same cell as I was no matter what I try. Any help is appreciated.

I seem to be picking up PCIs I've never seen before. Generally I pickup 263 for B2 and several other bands from my tower. Here is an old AT!LTEINFO when I was seeing B2 as main band:

OK
I can't seem to find PCI 263 anymore. I connected to B5 Aggregated with B2 for just a few moments earlier with no band locking. At!gstatus? showed B2 at about 114 dBi so plenty to connect to it, but when band locking only B2 I see the 15 Mhz and 1067 Earfcn and EMM shows deregistered. Any insight into this issue?

Also, after scouring Cellmapper, I can't seem to find nearly any of these cells it says i'm connecting to, and I am still aimed at the closest tower less than 5 miles away. All other towers are 7+ miles away. It seems like some of the PCIs in the 170ish range are a tower located the opposite direction of where im pointed. I do have a metal building and am curious if I'm seeing any bouncing of signals off it. Setup is currently still steup on the back deck and is not above the metal siding/trees. I also don't seem to be making any 3xCA anymore. The most I can get is B5 and B66, which I still havent been able to pinpoint where B66 is coming from. Hoping nothing is wrong with my equipment. Don't seem to be any water getting in to my connections either, as everything else has stayed consistent.

Signal cam bounce off metal buildings very very well. I thought I was getting my signal from the rear of my house, then when mounting my antenna on the roof I found it was actually just bouncing off the shoo behind my house back to it.

Im not sure on your signals... Im also not home, have to play later.

The first thing that comes into view is the lack of the secondary carriers for CA:

Code: Select all

LTE band: B2 LTE bw: 15 MHz
LTE Rx chan: 1076 LTE Tx chan: 19076
LTE SSC1 state:NOT ASSIGNED
LTE SSC2 state:NOT ASSIGNED
LTE SSC3 state:NOT ASSIGNED
LTE SSC4 state:NOT ASSIGNED

This is understandable when examining your signals. They are next to unusable:

Code: Select all

PCC RxM RSRP: -118
PCC RxD RSRP: -122

Which I understand, I'm just confused how with nothing else changing, I suddenly am not seeing B2 which generally sits between 108-115 on signal strength with a 20mhz width at 700 Mhz. Now I'm seeing that for B2 - is this just due to weather constraints at this time? Nothing else was moved or changed prior, and I generally see 30-50Mbps on just B2. I just don't seem to be picking up the cell from the tower anymore.

The weather can certainly impact signals.

Thus, it is possible to be completely tower related.

With no other changes, I agree its likely a change on your tower (weather or some other damage likely). You can call in a trouble ticket for it and have your tower checked. Ive never done it myself, but Ive heward of people getting things checked out that way.
