Most of the routers all have the same level of antennas for indoor use. You need pretty decent signal inside to get good connection. If you needed outdoor antennas for LTE before, you'll likely still need it with whatever you go with.

Configuring the Sierra EM7565 for Visible, using a WiFiX or Rooter based router
In order to use Visible service on your LTE modems, there are only a few steps needed.
NOTE: This works as of 12/19/2020. Visible could change things and change the needs, but as of today this works. I made the tutorial as I walked through doing it myself.

Re: Quectel EM12G cooling
Honestly. I ran an EM20G in the Hot Texas Summer heat, outdoors all summer. No heat sink. Was fine.
I would go with a heat sink on the chip cover, on top, and call it good. If you plan on setting it in a hot space, I would remove the case and mount the unit in a plastic case, or on a mounting board.

With the new openWRT 19.07 based rooter firmware you can add iphone tethering support. Its a pain, but it works.
You have to get ipheth and a few other related packages installed. Not the simplest thing, but it can work.

Short answer. No the modem is not smart enough to know.
Depends on the modem too. Some modems only use certain frequency ranges on each pair of antenna ports. Like the EM20, I believe it only has the higher frequencies on the second pair.

Re: Completely New Setup Won't Connect to Sprint
They are called pdp contexts. Basically you are giving the modem the list of APNs it is allowed to use, as well as the allowed protocols to use with them.

Re: NEWBIE: Mofi 4500 Sim 7 Using Visible SIM. Set-Up & Optimization. *HELP*
Try removing the TTL setting. Then power cycle.
Then set TTL to 64. Then power cycle again.
Test after letting it get fully booted up and connected.
You need to be setting both IPV4 AND IPV6 TTL too, make sure.

Re: EM160R-GL antenna pin outs?
Has anyone here actually managed to get their EM160R to switch to 2x2 MIMO mode? Every time I try it I get an error.
If I query the current setting it shows that the disable setting is off (i.e. 4x4 is enabled):
AT+QCFG="lte4x4mimo/disable"
+QCFG: "lte4x4mimo/disable",0
OK
When I try to turn ...

If you're willing to open it up only.
The The Wireless Haven 4x4 MIMO panel antenna is all in one and will work on all the frequencies, even B71. I have tested it.

Re: T-mobile home internet - external antennas
4G and 5G use the same frequencies. With exception to mmWave, but the TMHI device isn't mmWave. The only frequency most antennas dont have is for the new rare B46 with uses 5200Mhz. The newer antennas coming out go from 600Mhz to 6000 Mhz, but they are weak antennas on some parts of that range. Its ...

Re: Mobile Data for RV and Portable
If you want B71 support as well as 4x4 MIMO, then the Quectel RM500Q is your go to. Its a 5GNR modem and a step up in price, but covers literally every US cellular band.

Re: EM12 Keeps disconnecting from Router every hour
Ok, so went from POE splitter to the original power adapter shipped with the unit. same thing. I'm now testing it with a power adaptor from an old Lenovo Laptop. specs are 12V 4A. It's powered on and connected to internet again. Let's see how it holds up. If this fails, would you say it's the ...

Re: EM12G unable to connect
The reason I ask is because I'm fairly sure Verizon is hyper vigilant about seeing IMEIs of devices not registered to the SIM/account and then the drop the hell out of that imei, quick. ie: blacklisted.

You could also try flashing the latest firmware and see if that covers up some kind of irregularity. Prob not though.

Try MBIM mode
...but something tells me your modem is tripping out.
Your logs show that it is in fact disappearing completely for a short time. I've seen EM20's do this a lot. Not something I've seen in the EM12.
Code: Select all
AT+QCFG="usbnet",2
