EM7565 and 3CA (Sprint) - Help Request

Post by dontstoptherockin »

I'm hoping I can get some help with my EM7565 modem. First of all, I want to thank numerous posts from Jim Helms and the GitHub page from Daniel Wood. Without them, I would have never made it this far.

I've got a Sprint SIM card (pulled from a hotspot) and the setup appears to be functional, but I'm not getting the 3CA speeds I was hoping to get.

I've gone through the process several times, but keep ending up at the same result. I just tried a fresh wipe and install, so I'm starting relatively clean.

I stared out by clearing all preferences and firmwares:

Code: Select all

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!IMAGE=0
AT!RESET
Then I flashed the most recent generic firmware using a Windows 8.1 computer.

When queried, I got the following:

Code: Select all

AT!IMAGE?
TYPE SLOT STATUS LRU FAILURES UNIQUE_ID BUILD_ID
FW 1 GOOD 1 0 0 ?_? 01.09.04.00_?

FW 4 EMPTY 0 0 0

Active FW image is at slot 1

I think that all looks good so far? Next, I set it up to work with ROOTer:

Code: Select all

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!BAND=00
AT!BAND=09
AT!SELRAT=06
AT!USBCOMP=1,3,0000100D
AT!RESET
I'm using the 2019.03.10 version of ROOTer (Asus RT-N56U). I punched in r.ispsn for the APN. Now, we're connected and it looks good so far. However, I got the EM7565 for 3CA, so the next steps I took were to enable CA and lock onto Sprint Band 41:

Code: Select all

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!LTECA=1
AT!RESET

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!BAND=10,"B41",0,0000010000000000
AT!RESET

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!BAND=10
AT!RESET
At this point, I am getting speeds almost spot on to what I can get with my ZTE Warp Connect (2CA), which is about 40-50Mbps. However, my LG V20 (3CA, also Sprint) is hitting speeds of 100-110Mbps at the same time/location (appears to be 41+41+41), so that leads me to believe something isn't quite right.

In the ROOTer interface Modem -> Network Status -> Cell Information -> LTE Band, I am getting the following when I conduct a speed test:

Code: Select all

B41 (Bandwidth 20 MHz) aggregated with:
B40 (Bandwidth unknown) aggregated with:
B40 (Bandwidth unknown)
Looking at GSTATUS shows something similar:

Code: Select all

LTE SCC1 state: INACTIVE
LTE SCC1 band: B40
LTE SCC2 state: INACTIVE
LTE SCC2 state: B40
LTE SCC3 state: NOT ASSIGNED
LTE SCC4 state: NOT ASSIGNED
Any ideas where I might be going wrong? Am I asking the modem to do something it can't do?

Appreciate any help anyone can give. Thanks!

Run the command:

Code: Select all

AT!GSTATUS?
and post the full results.

Make sure your running your queries in the middle of a heavy download, or speed test.

CA only shows up during the activity.

I ran a speed test this evening and this is the output:

SINR (dB): 10.8
Looks like the bands are active and I've read that the B40 band is possibly a bug in the firmware.

Based on your signal info....

1: You need to get better signal if you want to max out the speeds.

https://usatcorp.com/faqs/understanding ... th-values/ has a rough guide graphic I like to refer to. I can never remember all the details to signal numbers.

2: Your main and diversity have a difference of upwards of 15%. You may want to check your antenna connections to ensure they are fully and properly seated. What are you using for antennas? I'm not familiar with the Asus RT-N56U. I'm guessing your using a usb enclosure and tethering it to the router?

Thanks for the input and suggestions. Primarily, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake while programming the modem, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.

I'm using a USB enclosure (with stock antennae) and tethering it to the router (USB 2.0). I'll have to do some troubleshooting on all the connections, checking cables, and making sure I've got enough power supplied to the modem. I've read that the EM7565 takes a little more juice than some of the other cards, any suggestions on how many amps to target?

Notice the disparity between the RxM (MAIN) and RxD (AUX port for Diversity) signal readings.

Code: Select all

PCC RxM RSRP: -119
PCC RxD RSRP: -106
SCC1 RxM RSRP: -121
SCC1 RxD RSRP: -104
SCC2 RxM RSRP: -122
SCC2 RxD RSRP: -110
We would like to see those numbers closer together.

I would check to make sure the MHF4 connectors are not loose or grounding out on the modem on the MAIN connector port.

You might also try swapping the antennas around, and see if the RxM starts receiving the better signal.
