New EM7511 + Rooter Setup Slow Speeds

Good Morning,

I just purchased (from The Wireless Haven) an EM7511 and the USB enclosure. I have my router flashed and running rooter. I was able to get connected to ATT without issue but my speeds are very slow. I was previously using a Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 but was experiencing frequent reboots with the device.

Assuming you are not using external antennas, check the MHF4 connector on the MAIN modem antenna port.

Make sure it is not loose or grounding out against the metal portion of the modem.

Notice the disparity in the signal readings between the MAIN (RxM) and AUX (RxD) ports which seem constant.

I will double-check the connections on the card. I am using a directional and omnidirectional antenna. In my tests, they are both connected to the MR1100 and the USB Enclosure housing the EM7511.

I would swap and use the external antenna on which ever connector goes to the MAIN antenna port on the modem.

It may be as simple as swapping places with the antennas connected to the USB3 enclosure.

I did swap my antennas around. I have the directional antenna on the main with the omni on aux. I also removed the booster that I had connected to them. I'm now on B30 with a DL increase It seems to keep waffling on/off that band tho.

The Omni or whatever antenna is connected to the AUX port of the modem shows a signal that is unusable.

It would be the omni. I tried swapping it with a small yagi antenna. The speeds are about the same as long as I'm on B30+B3. It seems like band30 and band3 is what I want to be on.

I'm getting the same speeds just having the directional antenna connected to the main. The cable that I am using for my aux connection is the oldest that I have. I have a new one on order. I will see how that signal changes once it arrives.

This morning I woke up to the rooter telling me it was on "ATT" but no further information nor internet. I had to switch back to the MR1100 for the day (wife is working from home). Could the issue be because I bandlocked to B30?

The one that I am pointing to currently is about 5 miles? Previously when I used the gli.net mifi that was where I got the best speeds. The mifi stopped recognizing sim cards so I've been on the search for a replacement.

You have one of the .best directional antennas made. You DEFINITELY don't need a booster at 5 miles, especially with one of those antennas. I would get my money back on the booster and get a matched antenna. Matched antenna pairs are "da wae" period.

I wouldnt bad lock unless you are having issues locking onto bands that are slower by speed. It happens. It will cause issues, but there is also a way to find out if there are multiple cells in the tower of the same band and you may be able to lock to all of the cells of the same band. Sounds weird, but may be worth looking into. That's for another day though. First I would do away with the booster and the mismatched antennas. Use only high quality LMR400, or at least LMR200 cables to your antennas. That should eliminate variability, and get you much closer to stability.

Alright. The booster was something I've had for a while before I got the bigger antenna. Could I pair the big antenna with a yagi antenna or does it have to be a matching pair? I've ordered another matching cable of LMR400 to replace what my aux antenna was using. I am no longer using the mifi. I have tried 2 different things.

1. I flashed my WRT1900AC with rooter and had my EM7511 connected USB to it. I was still getting disconnects/constant "connecting.

2. I flashed a RPi3 that I had with rooter and set it up as a 4g modem connected to my WRT1900AC. That is the setup that I woke up to this morning set to "connecting" and no internet on my home.

Make sure you don't have the rpi3 and the WRT using the same ip addresses. IE both gateway addresses as 192.168.1.1

They don't HAVE to be a matching pair, I've just never seen anyone preach their love of a mismatched pair. MIMO seems to rock better with matched pairs.

Also, make sure you are powering the modem enclosure through a dedicated source, not just relying on the usb cable power from the router port to it. That has been a cause of issues from many people. Not ALWAYS, but it happens, usually appears as random drops and resets.

Gotcha. I have an additional usb cord plugged into the USB modem enclosure using a 3A plug. I just didn't want to buy another big boy antenna (its big/heavy/bulky). Do you think with tower being 5 miles that 2 yagi antennas would work fine? I could get 2 nice smaller (less weight/bulk) yagi antennas as a matching pair.

For the price, it wouldn't hurt to try. Yagis can be great, sometimes they're just OK.

If you are trying to get optimal performance from your setup, you need to correct the RxD stats.

Thus, I would delay locking the bands on the modem until you get the reset of the issues resolved. You can use this command to set the modem back to all bands:

I set mey EM7511 back up directly attached to my WRT1900AC with rooter attached. I found a small magnetic antenna with a long cable that i connected inplace of what I had before. I got the PCC RxD RSRP number to change but what values am I looking for in this?

My speed test is good compared to what I was getting.

I took the sim out and put it directly in my MR1100 and it connected right up. It ran all day without any issue. I'm back on my EM7511 and my Rooter. I have it set for all bands at the moment. We will see how it runs tonight. Currently, it's jumping around bands a lot with varying speeds. I'm hoping to put up the other antenna and my new cable tomorrow.

Usually from lack of power. Try a different power supply. I like to use a 2.5a or 3a power supply.

I am using a 3A quick charge 3.0 adapter with a braided micro usb cable. I'm using the provided usb 3.0 cable from the enclosure to my router. I would have to buy a new USB cable for it. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Band 30 always gets me the best speeds. It flips over to B14 sometimes and is pretty slow. Here's what you requested.

Not bad really. Its not kicking in the CA there, but time will tell. It only shows Carrier Aggregation (CA) during load, it won't show it during normal idle traffic. Much of that depends on the cell tower equipment as well.

I currently have it set on Band 30 due to the slowness of the other bands. Would you recommend for me to have it back on LTE all? can I easily just blacklist a particular band instead?

Honestly, play around with it, give it a day or two on lte all. Another day or two on different bands.
