WG1608 with EM7565 & GoldenOrb WG1608-GO2020-06-10 = can't connect
Hi all -- thanks for the help thus far!
I've got a WG1608 here with a Sierra EM7565. Came with OpenWRT pre-installed, but was incompatible and modem tab didn't show up. Flashed to GoldenOrb WG1608-GO2020-06-14, found modem tab. Put in APN and other settings as per FAQs (thanks) and still no go.
IMEI and SIM ID etc all the info shows up, but modem status shows: Modem Present/Not Connected
Clicking the "connect modem" button does nothing.
So I read more and found out I should probably downgrade firmware to WG1608-GO2020-06-10 and try again. So did hard firmware reboot, got to the Chinese screen, flashed with 06-10, and no go.
Modem Status still shows: Modem Present/Not Connected, button doesn't work
So I thought it was that the modem didn't have the right settings and couldn't connect to ATT, but now I think it's that the router is having trouble talking to the modem.
Are there some AT commands I need to run to "activate" or otherwise connect the modem and get it running or something? (That's probably what the button does?)
Also I've read conflicting reports on using carrier-specific firmware for the modem. The standard tutorial says use the generic for most cases, but others reply saying use carrier specific. What's the consensus at the moment? For ATT and Sierra?

i have two wg1608 routes. one has EM12-G m.2 and the other has EM06-A m.2. bothr are running WG1608-GO2020-06-14. both connect without too much problems.
one thing i did notice you need to have an APN set or it will never connect. Router Login ==> Goto Modem ==> Connection Profile. Enter the correct APN for your carrier. i am on AT&T USA so i use broadband you can use broadband (usually used for tablets) phone (usually used for AT&T branded phones) nxtgenphone (usually used for unbranded AT&T phones). my friend who uses my other one with the EM-12G has to use phone as the APN to get his to connect to AT&T. i can use any one of the 3 to get it to connect.

What service and plan are you using? Look in your System Log (System-->System Log) and see if you see anything that mentions "subscriber"

Thanks guys -- on ATT, tried out the 3 APNs, didn't know about the others! Noticed that my phone was using nxtgenphone though so I thought maybe that would do the trick. But no luck.
So on GoldenORB do I still need to install the QMI package? as per https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/net ... figuration
When I use WG1608-GO2020-06-14 I can't get the Luci GUI to "Save and Update" - it hangs when applying the update. On WG1608-GO2020-06-10 that seems to work.

I would stick with the 6/10 firmware. No extra packages needed that I know of.
I would use the Generic firmware, but I don't think its totally necessary.
You used the command AT!IMPREF=... command?
Looking at your gstatus output, the RRC Idle tells me your network isnt allowing you connection.
LTE PS State: Not attached definitely says your not connected to the networks data.
Make sure your AT+CGDCONT? output isnt littered with odd APNS

OK thanks for the help y'all, turned out to be the SIM -- tried another line on our plan and whammy! no problem - connected and doubled the speed of the MOFI4500.
But upload speed dropped by about 2/3, from 15Mbps to 5Mbps on the EM7565. Any thoughts there?

There is a newer WG1608 version dated 23-Nov-2020 that runs like a scalded banchee on my WG3526.
I get speed increases of about 35-40% average both down and up and total max of 53gbit where 26 up and 6 down was my previous bests up & down speeds.
The WG3526 and WG1608 are very similar, mostly just updated chipset and M.2 interface instead of the mini PCIe slot.

Is there a reason some att SIM cards get stuck on connecting? Only one out of the 3 att SIM cards I have will work.

Not sure. too many variables possible, but I have seen junk SIM cards too.
