Question about ping

Post by Didneywhorl »

Is a well setup antenna the only way to optimize ping?

Re: Question about ping

The Ping measures the delay (latency) in milliseconds that it takes a device (i.e., a PC, TV, game box) to connect to the internet. When using LTE as an internet source, a good LTE antenna plays an important role in optimizing the ping.

With that said, however, an antenna is not the only factor to consider. The connection must leave the device (via WiFi or Ethernet cable) > travel through the air or cable > through any network switch (and more cables) > through the router > modem > cables/coax/connectors/surge protectors > then thru the antenna > thru the air to the tower.

I roughly understand the fact that there are nuances that exist between each connected device, Im asking strictly about the connection between the modem and the tower. Im sure different modems configured different ways will perform differently, but Im asking if Im static with my modem will a better antenna shorten the ping time or just allow greater speeds, or both.

As a generalisation, the stronger the LTE RSRP, latency will be:

a). more consistent (important)
and
b). lower

However, all other dependencies mentioned by 'JimHelms' are part of the latency equation as is the modem in use, the DNS and the ping destination.
