Help with TMobile Setup
I just lost my AT&T tablet plan that I’ve been using for 2 years. I was just using the SIM in a Nighthawk. I’m in a rural ish area that only has satellite internet available. My Verizon service is okay, and TMobile shows that I’m in their service area. I am trying to understand how to use T-Mobile’s plan to work, but I’m not super Tech savvy. . I start to get nervous about trying to get this set up and failing. My plan is to buy the MoFi sim7 and the Simple Mobile SIM card, set the TTL to 64. What else will I need? Is this going to be a doable for a beginner?

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
It's very doable.
The key is the SIM/Data Plan
The MoFi Sim-7 is a CAT-4 Modem (I have one) the only reason to get the Sim-7 is for cell Band-71
MoFi Sim-4 is a Cat-6 and has Carrier Aggregation (Faster Speeds)
Can always sell the MoFi on eBay if the project goes south on you.
It's only time and money
There are many very skilled members on this form, they are not fans of the MoFi but for a beginner it's a good staring point.
can move up on the modem food chain as your skills grow!
Have not used used Simple Mobile that TLL trick may work
Their Web page
"If congested, customers may notice reduced speeds vs T-Mobile customers that may be further reduced for small number of customers who use >40GB"

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Hello
Use TMobile post pay. Pretty easy to do. Just TTL of 64. If you get a The Wireless Haven router there is a guide to set it. Not hard to do.
Don't have to use 55+ T-Mobile it is just the cheapest way to get it if you are old enough.
Here is a link about it

What is TMobile Pay pay? Is that a typo? I’m wondering what the difference is between the Magenta plan and Simple Mobile. Any insight there? I’ve got another 20+ years before I qualify for the 55+. The Magenta plan I’m looking at is $70/mo.gscheb wrote: Thu Oct 08, 2020 10:06 pm Hello

Difference to me is HD streaming. Use this for my tv's. If you don't care about HD streaming then really not much difference.
Would need Magenta Plus to get that.
Have heard of people having issues with simple mobile before and not T-mobile post pay.

If you don't care about HD steaming, just want cheapest plan, willing to take a risk and tinker with it might want to try Mint mobile. They now have a unlimited 4G plan.
Never seen anyone post they are using this but seen other post before the had the unlimited.

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Hey GScheb, thanks for all the info. The MoFi arrived yesterday, I called and got the Magenta Plus line and my SIM activated. I changed the settings, and nothing. I can log in to the network, but I have no internet available. I did check the bands and band locked to 66 which it showed was the best. The TTL was actually already set to 64. I popped the SIM into an unlocked tablet and the service was so slow I could only get a page half loaded. So maybe TMobile isn’t going to be the best option for me? Trying to get this figured out before I scratch this whole plan and start over with a new provider. AT&T worked pretty good here, and my Verizon phone has solid service.
Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Okay, so I just tried to login to TMobile and it sent an SMS to my device to activate. How do I access this through the MoFi? Do I need to flash Rooter? I don’t actually know how to do that
Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Okay, I called TMo and got the hotspot fixed. It’s pulling 5mbps down/8 up. Not great. I wonder if the MoFi will be much better? Going to troubleshoot bands, reset the modem a few times and see if I can get it working. I found a phone that I think is payed off and unlocked, also going to try the SIM in that.
Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Nope that was my MoFi. I have the Test drive up and running and am currently streaming video without a problem.
I could not get the MoFi running with the sim. I changed the band to 71, APN is set correctly, I’ve rebooted and reset multiple times. Tried TTL 64 and 65. I pulled the SIM and put it in an Android phone, works just fine. Not sure what to try next.

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Try to remove the SIM and do a factory rest of the MoFi
Must have the SIM out!
1. Power Down
2. Remove SIM
3. Power up
4. Do a factory reset
5. Power down
6. install the SIM
7. Powerup
8. Setup the APN

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Are you testing via WiFi or LAN port?? The WiFi on the MoFi is type-N, WiFi-4 a little dated.
Could bring your MoFi on a road trip to the Cell Tower to test your Max Speed.
This would remove distance, cables, connectors, and antennas from the speed equation.

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Just wanted to say thanks! I had a similar issue and I updated the firmware that was released on 11/20 and still didn't work until I did a hard reset and now I'm back up and running. I'm getting about 100 down and 20 up. I live in nyc and this setup will eventually live on my roof which has clear line or sight to lots of towers. I plan on added this to my cable which is inconsistent but much faster with a load balancing router. I hope to reduce internet down time to zero.

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
I've seen the Tmobile post paid phone lines just work. Simple really. APN:Truefan31 wrote: Mon Dec 21, 2020 9:20 pm Will a Tmobile postpaid line work in a hotspot? Is there anything that needs done?

Re: Help with TMobile Setup
I also tried a Tmobile test drive hotspot and was unable to get it working in an EM7565. It acted like it got deregistered but resolved itself when putting the sim back in the hotspot.
Re: Help with TMobile Setup
Yeah the test drive sims would only work in the free hotspot they used for the test drive. Unfortunately the hotspot was a really crappy device with no external antenna connectors so in my very rural location it did not work satisfactory. It is the reason I am highly reluctant to try out their home internet option. It also lacks external antenna capability.
Although I do not need much for a internet setup (I can get by on just a few GB a month and low speeds if reliable)I do want it to work for the money I pay.
