Limited supply of H721 M2M V5 routers for sale to test for us $115 + 10% discount on a modem from thewirelesshaven.com
Hey Wireless Joint community.
I have a few of the newest version of the H721 router that I am willing to give at a deal price in return for a full, 100% honest no holding out, review here on the hacks forum.
$115 including shipping cost
This router had a rocky start at the beginning and thewirelesshaven.com deemed the V1 and V2 as not worth stocking. It has now morphed into a 5G supporting, multi card capable router called the V5. But I haven't tested it out much myself to prove its redemption. I'm just saying this to be 100% transparent here.
NOTE: The main issue was found to be related to users pulling the power plug from the router case. This would sometimes fry the modem in the M.2 slot, usually a Quectel EM20 modem. The router manufacturer added protective circuits in the V3 version, and all since. Many users have used the router with no issues at all. I wouldnt recommend pulling the power via the plug at the case anyway, as the power adapter is kind of the best place the power can be absorbed/dissipated during spikes (which pulling the plug creates), but you can do as you want with your router.
The V5 has a single M.2 modem slot, with screw pillars for both 4G and 5G modems. 3x mini-PCIE slots for wifi cards of your choosing(not included) and a 2nd modem.
2 SIM trays, and no SIM slot switch to mess with anymore.
4 gigabit LAN ports and 1 WAN.
The manufacturer has stated they have tested these for some time now with no issues to report. I'd like you to tell me if that's true for you. I don't have time right now to test them thoroughly, so you can take advantage of my lack of time and get a possibly great deal in the mean time.
The router should list for about $190 or so.
I'll sell them to you, in exchange for a review here on wirelessjoint.com, for $115 including shipping cost to anywhere in the USA. If you want a modem to go with it, state it here in the comments with your request for one of the routers, and I will add that to your request. Modem is from thewirelesshaven.com stock and at thewirelesshaven.com price. Heck I'll give you 10% off the modem price too.
Necessary disclaimer: This router comes with NO warranty, NO guarantees, and NO responsibility from The Wireless Haven. If the router damages ANY of your equipment or property, including a co-purchased modem, The Wireless Haven is not responsible for damages. You are getting this router as a test unit in exchange for a deep discount on the model and your promise to write an honest review on wirelessjoint.com.
Your review may help The Wireless Haven stock the router again. The manufacturer is on this forum from time to time and should support anyone who has issues with their router.
Pics of the router board: Latest firmware that I know of, not already installed: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hy5WLi ... sp=sharing
Patch notes: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sATwkb ... sp=sharing
Latest firmware found direct from rooter: http://ofmodemsandmen.com/upload/h761-GO2020-12-04-19074.zip
Included: 1x H721 V5 Router in metal router casing.
The case has 13 holes for antennas already in it.
No power adapters, no antennas, no modems, no wifi cards. If you need anything like that you can get it on thewirelesshaven.com.
I recommend a power supply at 2.5A minimum. This unit uses 12VDC power.
This router is not PoE capable, if you would like to make it poe, you can add a poe+ injector and a poe splitter. I recommend the gigabit injector and splitter from thewirelesshaven.com. Best ones I've found.
Buy it here
You'll know we are all out when the item says it is out of stock.

Thank you!
I am having a very difficult time getting an LM960 to work. Set it to USB2.0 and created custom modem ports but I can't get the OS to even recognize the device. Any ideas?

We have a lot of routers deployed in the field, along with several The Wireless Haven units we built based on intel acquired on this site. I'll give it a full review.

I don't think it needs to be usb 2.0 does it? Might be wrong though. I tested the LM960 in the previous versions and didn't have a ton of luck. I'll see what I can figure out.
Keep trying stuff and let us know.

So digging further. I put an old EC25 card in and it seems to not recognize any PCIE Modem. Any chance I am missing something obvious to enable the port on the board for Modem use? I have both the WiFi slots in use and those are chugging along with no issues.

For giggles, try the wifi slots with the LTE modem.nedyah70 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 2:14 pm So digging further. I put an old EC25 card in and it seems to not recognize any PCIE Modem. Tried this morning. No luck. EP06, EC25, and the LM960. None of them are recognized in the other mPCIe slots.
With both WiFi cards and modems in normal spots. The Quectel device shown is an EM-12 in the M.2 slot.

Not yet Soooo much to try lately. I will though. I havent had anyone else talk of this issue though. Odd. Did you set your LM960A18 to USB2 mode first?

Yep! Tried USB2 and USB3 with the LM960. None of my PCIe Quectel cards worked either.Didneywhorl wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 6:34 pm Not yet Soooo much to try lately. I will though. I havent had anyone else talk of this issue though. Odd. Did you set your LM960A18 to USB2 mode first?

Mine is running solid with an EM160. I did try to put an EC25AF in the mpcie slot and when populated, the router see's no modems. I was going to try a few other modules to see if it was specific to the EC25.
This is why I haven't posted my write up yet, as wanted to further troubleshoot this first.

The manufacturer sent me this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C15HEl ... sp=sharing
Said this is the latest firmware, and he thinks that may clear up the issues.

Tried the firmware, gave me a warning for wrong firmware, went for it anyway. Can't login. Tried the password in the release notes but it wouldn't let me in. Tried Dairyman's newest firmware GO2020-12-04-19074, first thing I tried was to change my ipv4 address, that didn't work.Didneywhorl wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 11:35 pm The manufacturer sent me this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C15HEl ... sp=sharing

Did you load it with the "Keep Settings" Checkbox unchecked? It shouldn't have a password needed at all for new firmware installs.ltewithdrawls wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:34 am Tried the firmware, gave me a warning for wrong firmware, went for it anyway. The IPV4 address changes in rooter are always a pain, I don't know why. I always wait for it to pop up and ask to revert or save changes anyway. Click 'save anyway'

I had the same issue. I ignored the firmware warning and carried on. After MANY attempts I discovered it reset my root password to "admin". But, the odd part is it would only work in private browsing mode and it had to be my first attempt. If I entered the password incorrectly once it wouldn't take the correct one unless I used private browsing or cleared site history / cookies.ltewithdrawls wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 1:34 am Tried the firmware, gave me a warning for wrong firmware, went for it anyway. For mini-PCIE modems, may also want to try: https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=429

I can confirm the latest build does not pass validation check, but it does work. Also yes, need to use password of admin even when you "save settings". I'm waiting on an EP06 to throw in the pcie slot.

Latest firmware has this rolling via the debug logs...
/dev/ttyUSB2 Can't open device /dev/ttyUSB2.
Is the previous firmware posted for this?

I also noticed that while the latest firmware does allow the modem to connect, the stats down show on the Network Stats page, additionally, the stats no longer show on the Live Network Status Page which was a nice bonus with this router.

@Didneywharl: Is the mfgr working on another update perhaps? I can try to tether an external modem to see how that works. I have a few more modems on order and already have a usb enclosure.

This is going to drive me crazy. Exact same firmware. Factory reset. All other M.2 and PCIe slots are open. LM960 in USB2 and MBIM mode. Absolutely nothing.Didneywhorl wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 2:48 pm ATT connected. iPad SIM.

Loaded with the latest firmware from Telit. It's not just the LM960 for me. LM940 and all my Quectel M-PCIe cards do not work either. WiFi cards are perfect.Didneywhorl wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 5:05 pm Maybe load the latest Telit firmware images?

Show me your full Debug page under Modem--> Debug, with any mini-pcie modem installed.

Clean upgrade this time @Didneywhorl. It did say it needed the pw changed, took my old pw and I simply rekeyed in it and it was happy. I have noticed the latest builds of GO doing this. Modem connected fine this time, everything is clean. Time to install a second modem and SIM card.

So tested it again this morning, put a EC25AF in it, did some wonky Qualcom modem "connecting" then neither modem showed up and both disappeared with errors in the debug log of no modem. I recall reading somewhere that the Quectel EM160R which I have does not play well with certain modems. I don't have any spare Sierras laying around so will have to get one, plug it into the slot and see if it detects and runs in dual modem mode.
Other than that this router has been great. I'm fairly certain the protection circuit they put in is working as designed as I have been running this now since late DEC 2020.

Rooter has a history of issues that are completely random with both the EC25 and EP06. No idea why.

These so called hacks, are cutting off the people they claim to help, by not getting them internet access.

As far as visible working against, would not be legal. Congress voted in 2008 that cable companies and cell carriers have to allow you to bring your own equipment. They can not sell you a service, then lease you the equipment to use said service, this is racketeering. They must provide equipment with service free of charge. Since that would be expensive, providers must allow private equipment as long as it does not slow their network down. So you see you are allowed to bring in approved devices. (Devices that do not slow down their services). It is regulated by the fcc, and Congress. FCC laws also make it a federal and sometimes international crime to use any cellular device to commit a crime. That includes false advertisement.
This H721 I believe to be a router from '90's early millennium era Europe, that they attempted to repurpose with the USB slots to power modems. When that failed, especially with US carriers doing away with 3G, and switching to 4G "VOLTE" compatible only devices. I believe they rig the device to appear as if your making changes, and then you feel as if you are doing something wrong. But are not actually changing anything but the display.
Fraud is a crime, cellular fraud is a Federal and International crime.
