Antenna + mofi 4500 + Visible = 1.8 Mbps

Post by Dave_Indeed »

Am I getting throttled? The last time I checked my speed it was as fast as 50 mbps down! Over the last few weeks, garbage.

I only just bought the mofi a few months ago so bear with me while I am learning.

Check what bands you are on. It could have jumped to a slower band. I get about 12-20 on visible on mine.

I was bandlocked on band 13 and I turned it to auto but it grabbed 13 again. After the subsequent reboot I was up to 2.3 mbps.

Verizon and other carriers have lifted the throttle for some time during the pandemic, but they have all reinstated by now. So it's possible that's what you're experiencing, along with Visible's own internal throttle. Unfortunately there's no known workaround.

Yes this suggestion seems to correlate with the time line of my network behavior. If that is the case I will have to finally transfer my mobile phone plan from T-mobile to Visible and tether my laptop for work rather than sharing the same low bandwidth connection from the router. The kids and the TV will be fine sharing it.

Thanks!

I have a Mofi 4500 sim7 and a Mifi 7730L, I've been testing speeds with a new Visible sim. The Mifi consistently gets 7mbps average but the Mofi 4500 is usually 1-2 mpbs. I feel like somehow Visible is throttling the Mofi 4500. Changing bands and ttl has no effect. Any ideas?

The MoFi 4500 Sim7 has NO Carrier Aggregation. A Cat-6 Modem

Mifi 7730L
LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation: Yes (3x 20MHz channels)
Cat-9 Modem

The MoFi is a good starting modem and I have gotten 48Mbps DL with the correct tower (AT&T). Looks like the MoFi is out gunned on power.

Take the MoFi on a road trip to test on other towers.
