[SOLVED] EM7565 failed to connect (Verizon)

Post by sharkbait »

I'm trying to get a new system running. It's a Sierra EM7565 card connecting via USB to a router running GoldenOrb. The system recognizes the modem but it fails to connect. If it makes a difference, I'm trying to connect to Verizon using the SIM from my phone and the system recognizes the SIM info. I also set the TTL to 65.

Just to try something, I did try the following but it didn't make a difference. I am able to issue AT commands without any problems.

The modem can fixed while installed in or behind a router running OpenWRT/GoldenOrb/WiFiX firmware.

Using PuTTy, login the router using the IP address 192.168.1.1

Once in, run the following command:

Code: Select all

echo 1199 9091 > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
Then repair the config with:

Code: Select all

picocom -b 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0
Then place the modem in MBIM composition with the follow commands:

Code: Select all

At!entercnd="A710"
At!usbcomp=1,3,1009
At!reset

And, that should do it.

The fix you posted is for a completely separate issue.

Run the command:

Code: Select all

AT!GSTATUS?
and post the results.

This is network related:

Code: Select all

EMM state: Deregistered Attach Needed
RRC state: RRC Idle
IMS reg state: No Srv
Is the SIM Card is properly activated.

I would contact the carrier and have them check on their side as to its activation.

[SOLVED] EM7565 failed to connect (Verizon)

Post by sharkbait »

I have read about several Verizon users having a similar problem. I found a reply on the Sierra Wireless forums that the problem can be caused by running the generic firmware and the there "will be no IMS APN profile thus SIM OTA will not be triggered". The recommendation was to download the Verizon firmware and use that.

I installed the Verizon firmware and was then able to connect without any problems. On top of that, moving my SIM back into the phone wasn't a hassle like I had after it deregistered using the generic firmware. I was getting 40Mbps down and 20Mbps up so I'm guessing it was using my unlimited phone data vs being seen as a hotspot which I would expect to see the throughput throttled.

Thanks for the quick responses to my request for help Jim!
