WG3526 with EM7565 no 4G

Post by MattB29 »

I have put together a new modem/router setup and this has been the steps so far.

Flashed the WG3526 with the latest GoldenOrb firmware.
Installed adapter card to pcie to m.2 modem and installed EM7565 modem.

Was able to start up and have my SIM recognized (GSMA from Red Pocket Data only sim) however I am only in HSPA (3G) with near zero speed. Using the Modem setup area I attempted to force 4G only but the modem was not able to connect. Tried setting TTL to 65 to see if that made any difference. It did not. Tried using other antennas I have ones that can be placed up to 10ft away. Better signal strength in 3G but still no 4G.

Anybody have any ideas? Since the computer I have running the WG3526 from is too slow for online work I am using my main computer connected through a Netgear LB1120 (4G band 12) with a Cricket data only sim to be online for the moment.

Perhaps something to do with QMI versus MBIM?

I have put the sim card in a phone an it came up with 4G so it is not likely a function of the sim card. After reinstalling into router and restarting I still only connect in HSPA+

OK
Tried a few more things that I read on the forum here but anytime I try for 4G I can not connect. Used the AT commands to show SIM working OK and the phone number there. I am not sure how to change to MBIM and will see if I can find that. Although slow at 3G at least I can use it so that I can more easily respond with any information someone needs. Thanks for any help.

If I try selecting 4G only it will not connect. It attempts to over and over until I switch back to the Automatic selection. BTW this EM7565 is stock with no changes to it by me other than using the Red Pocket APN (Reseller) and some AT commands for information.

Update. After trying a few things out I decided to tryout the sim in my LB1120 and sure enough it came up 3G there as well. So after putting back in my Cricket sim and having it stuck in 3G. I was frustrated to say the least. However after deleting and redoing the APN the LB1120 with the Cricket data sim went back to 4G. At least my main system works.

Retried the Red pocket sim in the WG3526 and went through a reset and regain of the APN settings to see if that would make a difference. It did not. Finally contacted Red Pocket via chat and they informed me that there was a problem with how AT&T was setting up some of the sims. They asked me to wait 24-48 hours with the device on and see if the issue corrects itself.

After leaving on the modem/router overnight I rebooted this morning and "Bam" it is now in LTE reception. Amazing how something as simple as having your provider not set the SIM card up right can cause error that you tear your hair out over.
