Hello, I have the ATT Ipad unlimited plan, I almost lost it like everybody else lol
I have since bought an ipad and jailbroke it and have PDANet running on it with the WiFi hotspot on, it is fast but the connection just keeps going up and down, I don't lose the IP address, but it stalls all the time, it will only download for a minute or more and then drop out and then pick back up usually under a minute, it's really annoying but useable for the most part.
I read about USB Tethering and thought that it might be more stable
I have a 3rd Gen Ipad on 7.1.2, an ASUS RT-AC1200 AC56U, and a Netgear AC1750 r6400v2 running DDWRT
I got DDWRT running on the Netgear but can't figure out how to get the USB tethering to work, from reading it looks like I might be able to get Openwrt to work on the Asus, not sure if it would work better than the DDWRT
Under WAN Connection Type - I have Iphone Tethering selected with the Ipad plugged into the USB3.0 slot
I can't find any guides or much info about what all settings need to be set or exactly what to do, most guides are for iphones, but none of those helped to get it working
Does anybody know what settings in the Netgear would need to be set to use the Ipad for tethering? or if it even supports it, it doesn't look like the Netgear r6400v2 is supported by Openwrt from what I read
Do I need a different router? would the Asus on Openwrt be better and have more options to work with the ipad?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Re: Need help with ATT unlimited plan and Ipad USB Tethering
Im no ipad expert by far, but I do believe that openwrt based Goldenorb(rOOter) was created to have built in support for LTE connections built in with minimal modification. Ofmodemsandmen.com is their site. They have a router support list. Its very easy to install on most any router listed, especially if you have already flashed to ddWRT.
You may, though want to search "ipad tether" on this forum, and "How to usb tether an ipad to laptop" on google or similar. It should get you in the neighborhood for tethering the LTE to your router.

Thanks, I've seen the rooter site and it doesn't look like the 2 routers I have are supported, I'm going to try flashing similar firmware to them anyway.
I've been googling like crazy and been to tons of sites, that's why I'm posting now lol

Re: Need help with ATT unlimited plan and Ipad USB Tethering
If you want something cheap that will work out of box and supports lots of open source code, try the GL.iNET GL-MT300N-V2 Wireless Mini Portable Travel Router https://amzn.to/2Bs9Erw
I love these little fellows and have passed many on to teachers needing a quick fix. Right out of box you can tether and is simple. Got some non-technical teachers and even they can use it:)
I personally have never used a ipad, but seems tethering is tethering...

Thanks, I read about those and did just buy one earlier to try, I also set up a tmobile account to try as well to see if it's faster and truly unlimited, but I would love to just get the stupid ipad working lolterryjett wrote: Thu Jun 04, 2020 7:17 pm If you want something cheap that will work out of box and supports lots of open source code, try the GL.iNET GL-MT300N-V2 Wireless Mini Portable Travel Router https://amzn.to/2Bs9Erw

I have never used a ipad (seriously - never used one). But they are popular in the education world. Heard a lot of people saying they cannot stay connected to the thing via wifi hotspot though. Good luck, hope you get it working,
