WG3526 Connection Issues

Hi, I recently put together a WG3526 and mc7455 and it seemed to be working great but I have been having disconnects about every 30-60 minutes. I found new goldenorb firmware openwrt-wg3526-GO2018-08-17 and flashed it but I'm still having problems. I think the problem is not the router/OS, the issue is with the modem itself.

This might be a setting issue with the modem (trying to find details on that), or I think it could be an issue with your USB cable (if your router even has one, I'm not sure?) to your modem?

As GoldenOrb progresses, more of the programming is automated.

I generally prefer to program the modem at the same time I am placing it in MBIM mode. It certainly does not hurt to run the commands at any point to assure the modem is programmed correctly:

I would also recommend to reset the modem to OEM where a lot of configurations have taken place, and start anew with the programming:

When the modem reboots and comes back on line, then reprogram the modem using the commands above.

Also, know that Sprint is experiencing ongoing network issues in various locations. Most seem to clear up in a few days, though it is not uncommon to hear of people going for weeks until the issues were resolved.

No, that is what it should return. Just a thought, are you positive your APN is r.ispsn and not n.ispsn? I have seen them both.

Yes. When I was inquiring as to the proper APN, I was referring to the APN the device (i.e., hotspot) was using that the SIM Card was removed from. But again, if you are staying connected more than a couple of minutes, I suspect you are using the correct APN.

I did a hard reset, reinstalled the OEM firmware, then flashed the new firmware making sure that the "save settings" box was unchecked. I'm still getting the same result, the disconnects are happening more and more often - every 5-15 minutes now.

While it is most often a wasted call and requires getting passed around to someone who is qualified to give a valid answer, why don't you call Sprint and ask them if they are having network issues in your area.

It is worth a try at this point, and there are a lot of areas where Sprint is having issues. I have seen people pull their hair trying to resolve issues that ended up being non-resolvable due to the issues being on the network.

Hi Jim, I reflashed the firmware back to 12_17 and it seems to be working better. It is still dropping pretty often though. This is strange to me though: I can play Rocket League for hours at a time and I don't get disconnected.(Yes, I'm a grown ass man who plays rocket league for hours at a time sometimes) What is going on that keeps my router from disconnecting while I am playing rocket league? And does knowing that give insight on how to keep the router from disconnecting other times?(other than playing rocket league all day every day). Streaming video through youtube(amazon) does not keep the connection.

I still think your modem is randomly going into low power mode for some reason, and dropping your connection.

What firmware are you running again, Generic?

I actually meant the firmware of the modem (which is what the AT!IMPREF? command outputs).

Is this the output of that command, after you ran the commands to reset the firmware back to generic that I shared, or did you just run AT!IMPREF?

Ok, so it'll be hard to tell if there was a firmware mismatch or not now (thats okay should have told you to run them in the opposite order), but let me know if that helps keep your connection more stable. And if it fails again, check the status with at!gstatus to see if its in low power mode again.

oh, that's interesting. It looks like init or systemd is crashing (in the second code output you pasted).

Do you have any other hardware you could try this sim card in? I'm beginning to suspect there might be a hardware issue with your router and/or modem.

Just the r850 hotspot that came with the sim card. I had it back in the hotspot a week or so ago to check the apn settings and it works great in the hotspot.

I'd be inclined to believe at this point there is more than likely a hardware issue with your router or modem. I'm leaning towards the modem due to it going into low power mode all the time. Can you get a replacement for it , and see what happens?
