ibr600 as modem with router running openwrt - allow ttl adjustments?
I currently have the cradlepoint IBR600BLP4 with the att ipad plan for my home internet. I've been researching options to change things if and when I get the boot.
Is it feasible to simply purchase something like the Archer A7 and run openwrt, keeping the cradlepoint as the modem and allowing me to adjust ttl settings via the router? This is by far my cheapest option.
Thanks for your help.

Just to change ttl? Sure, it will work.

No matter what TTL you set, if you use over 500GB per month (or even less), ATT will likely disconnect your service as it has happened to countless others. You may want to consider other carriers for router use > https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?p=5790#p5790

@BillA is right on, get greedy and you will be booted.
Be careful with the Archer A7. I have two that will not run OpenWRT. Seems V5 works, see here: https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer_a7

Is the Archer A7 v5 the older or newer version hardware?

I honestly do not know if V5 is newest. I own a bricked V3 and a working V4 with default firmware. Both are in the closet with the other numerous router test projects gone south.

The GoldenOrb firmware site (https://www.ofmodemsandmen.com/firmware16.html) shows exactly which versions will work.

Yes sir, but we are talking about the A7 (least that is what OP stated), not the C7. If you read the first link I posted you will see that there are differences.BillA wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 9:43 pm The GoldenOrb firmware site (https://www.ofmodemsandmen.com/firmware16.html) shows exactly which versions will work.

Thanks Bill. I definitely plan on getting a T-Mobile SIM card. We have a family plan and I can add a magenta line for $20/mo.BillA wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 9:09 pm No matter what TTL you set, if you use over 500GB per month (or even less), ATT will likely disconnect your service as it has happened to countless others. Thanks Terry. What's a good inexpensive option? I saw the A7 refurbished on B&H for $40 and it seemed like a good deal. I definitely don't want to end up with a paperweight!terryjett wrote: Thu May 21, 2020 9:20 pm @BillA is right on, get greedy and you will be booted.

I have ordered a couple of these renewed C7's over past few weeks: https://amzn.to/2TtZzACKilgore_Trout wrote: Fri May 22, 2020 5:40 am Thanks Terry. What's a good inexpensive option? Used them to setup teachers in need of better internet. Installed Rooter/GoldenOrb on each with no issues https://ofmodemsandmen.com/routers.html
Personally never had issues with Amazon renewed products but some like new.

I used to have a C8 now that I think about it. It was solid. I'll grab a C7. Thanks for the advice!
