CBA850LP6 connecting to ASUS N66U Router

Post by LarryJB »

I tried to post this earlier, but I guess I failed to do it properly.

I am new at this so please be gentle.

I am trying to configure the Cradlepoint CBA850LP6 to work as a modem for an ASUS N66U wireless router.

I followed the tutorial making the recommended changes, with the exception of leaving LAN2 in IP Passthrough mode.

I put my sim card in the unit, connected LAN1 to my computer and had no problems, it even connected to the internet on LAN1 port.

I then connected LAN2 to the ASUS router's WAN port, but it never seemed to properly connect to the CBA850.

The LAN2 light on the CBA850 remained white and the ASUS never seemed to recognize it.

I am thinking I may have something configured on the ASUS, but I have no idea as to what it would be.

Here is a screenshot of the ASUS WAN settings and the CBA850 LAN2 settings.

Hmm... I am not that familiar with the ASUS routers but will give it a shot.

First, download a backup system configuration file from your ASUS router.

Next, restore the ASUS to its default settings.

Reboot both the ASUS and Cradlepoint, and see if it will passthrough the IP address.

If not, make sure the routers are on different subnets.

Thank you Jim! Rebooting and reconfigure worked.
Now, a couple more questions.
I think your recommendation is to NOT register with NetCloud, is that correct?
Should I set LAN2 to DHCP server disabled, or leave it enabled?

Glad you got it up and running.

That is an individual choice. We run several of them and have for years, and have yet to register for the NetCloud paid subscription.

Now that it is working, you can always download the backup configuration files for both routers.

Then you can try to disable DHCP on the Cradlepoint and/or make any other changes on either of the routers.

If it is not to your liking, restore the router with its configuration file.

If you like the alteration and suits your application, download another configuration backup.

You will also find it useful to give the configuration file a specific name to help identify the change that was made.

Ok, how do you backup the CBA850 configuration? I can't even find it in the manual. Sorry to be such a pest.
