Looks similar to the device I got a while back, no fan in mine though and config is done via Minicom USB.

Yep, there are some DIY versions out there. Eventually there may be a commercial non-diy competitor, likely out of China.
The InvisaGig is made to be as easy to setup and use as possible for the modem tech that it is. Plug and play with the right SIM card, minimal setup to get going for other SIMs. No USB port serial terminals, just a simple text based interface via common browser.
