Some newbie questions

Post by Hogwild »

Hi everyone:

I have a few real newbie questions.

What's the difference in the tables I see on the Web between Default ID and Vendor ID?

Are the vendor IDs different across different carrier for the same "model"?

What's enterprise mode, and why can you have a different vendor ID when in that mode?

Thanks.

Show some screenies if you could.

Typically a Vendor ID, known as the VID is a standardized Identifier for use on a USB and PCI bus use and it uses and is a 3 digit number.

Here is one of a few cool sites that are basically VID and PID (product ID) search engines:

Sheesh, I'm really messing up today.

Sorry, I meant between Default ID and Modem ID.

For example, here in this table

Now, in Linux, I notice there's a Device ID. Is that the same as the PnP ID ?

Oh, that makes sense. So PnP IDs are the same format as Vendor ID:Device ID right?

What's a default ID, then?

And any idea what are the answers to my other questions?
