NEXP1GO and EM7565 Connection Issues

Hey all new to the board, so I apologize If I'm just revisiting old topics. I am also not the most tech savvy so forgive me if I use the wrong terminology.

I purchased the complete router bundle with the above mentioned NEXP1GO and EM7565 Modem. I followed several of the guides on putting the router together and have now been working in the webpage GUI. Once I realized I couldn't get the connection I attempted the connection troubleshooting guide, but wasn't have success (user error no doubt).

I started by entering the APN - fast.t-mobile.com. I took this APN directly from my previous Franklin T9 GUI and that router was operating normally.

Under the Connect Logs I continuously receive "Attempting to connect with Modem #1. Under Modem--> Network Status -->General Information, the modem lists Sierra Wireless EM7565 listed as Modem 1. I also noticed under the Miscellaneous tab--> Current Modem, It states Modem Present/Not Connected.

I've also tried the AT command to test the SIM card which returns Error, which I assume because my modem isnt fully cooperating.

Again, I apologize for not being able to interpret the other threads and appreciate any support!

Does the SIM ICCID number show up in the webUI under the Modem menu -> Network Status screen?

Yes the SIM ICCID number is present.

Also run AT!IMPREF? to see if it is using Generic firmware. That is best. Show us the output, please.


Also run AT+CGDCONT? and tell us what the response output is, please.

Your on the Telestra firmware.

You need to change to Generic firmware. The info is on this forum.

I gotta look it up, out on my phone rn.

Once I saw that I kind of figured.

Silly question, but is the actual firmware called "Generic" or the firmware is generic to this hardware?

So, I may have royally screwed up.

I found a thread on downloading the Generic firmware and most recent drivers. Once drivers were installed I reset the PC and then ran the firmware .exe.

It didn’t seem to be doing anything, so me and my infinite wisdom went into the route - under flash firmware browsed to the firmware download. The system seemed to take the install and now everything is in what seems to be Mandarin with very few options.

Do I have a chance at redemption?

Its on the modem already, usually and is called "GENERIC"

Set with commands:

AT!ENTERCND="A710"

then

AT!IMPREF="GENERIC"

then

AT!RESET

You may have to do it more than once. Make sure you are not entering the " using the windows slanted “. If you have to enter them into notepad then copy it over. Windows can really mess with things.


You have to have it show the same, generic, image and version on both positions from the AT!IMPREF? command output. You will see what I mean if it isn't. It will also say firmware mismatch error. The modem will not work with firmware mismatch. Just set it again with IMPREF and reset it again.


Your fine on the router. No worries, though I'm sure your freaking right now. :/

The router firmware recovery screen is in Chinese. You can translate it with google translate plugins on most browsers.

It is called firmware recovery mode.

Awesome! Once I get home I'll run these commands and let you know the results. One the firmware is switched to generic should the connection auto-connect?

Its hard to say. Make sure the APN is set right and your system time and time zone as well. In general with all settings set right for the SIM plan used it should connect right up.

So, I’ve from the Chinese recovery screen I uploaded a .bin firmware and am now showing MediaTek OpenWrt.

Seeing how I was just wanting to go from telestra to generic, I feel like this is a completely different platform.

Do you mind pointing me to the firmware download that I can enter?

Sorry to interupt but the OP seems to be confusing his router firmware with the modems firmware. Different things.

I now know what Mike829 is saying.

I am now back to the original router firmware and have the modem set to "Generic" but I still am not getting internet connection. I also synched the time again.

Reading through your OP you state that your sim previously worked in Franklin t-9. What is the plan you are using? It is possible that T-Mobile has locked the sim to the Franklin's IMEI. If so you will need a different plan and sim.

I am using the Calyx Institute plan. I thought it was originally a Sprint program, but when looking in the browser of the T9 with the SIM I noticed it was on the fast.t-mobile.com. I asked The Wireless Haven before purchasing and they thought that it should work. Is it possible to "flash" the IMEI onto this router?

This rural life is awesome except for getting reasonable internet....

They will not discuss IMEI alteration of the modem on the Forum here.

Sounds like either the vendor or your Internet supplier would have to address the issue of your setup working. I am neither. Just help when I think I can.

You'll almost always want to use the APN that the hotspot is set to.

I've entered both of the AT commands above receiving "OK." I still am unable to receive connectivity. Are there any other troubleshooting steps I can take whether it be AT commands or hardware?

I can always revert back to the T9, but would love to use the functionality of the WG3626 Router. I receive fairly decent signal via the T9, so I don't think signal strength is my issue.

Don't mean to hijack your thread colelail but I am also in the same exact situation.
I just received my new hotspot from connectall. Everything out of the box was completely tmobile, from the sim card to the APN used to connect. Out of the box it worked fine but pairing it with a em7565 resulted in it just stuck in connecting status.
I followed the same troubleshooting steps listed earlier but no luck.
Here is the response I receive to the above command

Still getting errors... I double-checked that my drivers were up to date too. I looked up my device manager and have a device called WD SES Device USB Device that states "no compatible drivers" may not even be related, but I'm really needing this device to connect soon!

Gotta enter AT!ENTERCND="A710" first I believe. make sure you don't use the Windows ", they look slanted and wont be accepted.

Then enter AT!USBCOMP?

If that doesn't work, try without the ?

fast.t-mobile.com in position 1 and 3 is good. It's how I do it. otasn in position 2 is good as well.

I wish to heck the carriers would stop being pernks about these devices. They are approved and work on their networks, but they wont support them mostly because they can't seem to write a braindead script for overseas CS reps.

Remind me, who you are getting your service from? I've gotten lost on who is dealing with what on this thread. Both of you really. What is the exact original device and what APN does that device have in its settings, for data, when its SIM is installed and connected?

I have a Franklin T9 from Calyx. When it’s operating it connects to the fast.t-mobile.com APN.

Sorry about that Didneywhorl, it seems colelail and I are running into the same exact situation with the same devices.
I also have a Franklin T9 but from Connectall. When operating in the hotspot it also connects using the fast.t-mobile.com APN.
AT!USBCOMP? results are also the same as above

Not an expert at this stuff but Colelail posted output seems to indicate that his setup is operating connected as WCDMA Band 1900 which is basically 3G. He might want to try changing from Auto to LTE only. The old WCDMA bands barely function for data transfer.

If the modem will not connect as LTE likely the sim from Calyx is the problem.

Not running Golden Orb at the moment but you can find the option somewhere in the settings. There is also ways to do it with AT commands but would have to look it up via a search.

I found the setting to enable LTE only and turned it on. I'm starting to really need this router to connect, so I'm going to dump a bunch of items from the DEBUG. Hopefully someone can point out the missing piece - At some point it says "SIM Failure" but is still reading the ICCID.

This is what I'm focusing on here. Low power mode isn't a good place to be.


Run that command for me again. Right after reboot, and a few times afterwards. About 3 times total about 2-3 minutes apart.

You are connected LTE on Band 66. with really good signal numbers I would think that means you have succeeded in getting internet. Maybe that is what the smile emoticon signifies. If so good job!

On the contrary, I still am not connected. I feel like I’m missing something extremely simple from finishing the setup… any ideas?

On your first post you said:

Is this still the case? Are you running any TTL rules? Your APN correctly entered? Sim ICCID Identified?

Also how exactly are you connected to the router? Ethernet preferred. Device, OS and browser used to connect to router?

That about does it for me in terms of ideas. Hopefully after you post your Golden orb setup as it is now someone else might spot something.

SIM ICCID is identified. Under the General Information the Sierra EM7565 is still listed as Modem1, but under Provider: it always stays "connecting."

I am not running any TTL rules, would you suggest implementing any? if so, what would they be?

I am connected to the router via ethernet and a Zyxel switch. Running Windows 10 64 bit and Chrome for the browser.

Both basically say the network is blocking you. You might want to request a new SIM and put it in the new router when you get it.

Or you may want to try to match the modems imei to the hotspot, just in case.

How do I match the IMEI? Is it an AT command or is there a GUI entry?

Also, do you know if calyx provides a replacement SIM? And if asking for a replacement is there a reasoning to help the process that you know of?

Out of curiosity I searched Calyx site concerning sim transfer: https://calyxinstitute.org/membership/i ... 4g-lte-faq

They say:
Q: Can I take the SIM card out of the hotspot you provide and use it in another device?

A: Our reseller agreement with our equipment and service supplier, Mobile Citizen, prohibits the use of third-party equipment. Members who are found by Mobile Citizen to be using third-party equipment will have their service terminated.
That tells me that they will search the IMEI of your device and not allow it to connect if it is not right. This Forum does not discuss IMEI changes so you would have to research that elsewhere.

It is possible that your Calyx sim will no longer give you internet access if you replace it back in the approved device. If so you will need to contact them and see about reactivation.

The ToS there is CYA documentation. Calyx links their donators to the hacks forum and facebook group just for that use. ;)

You can get EM7565 imei help here maybe. NOT related to Wireless Joint, even though they copied the trademark name: https://www.facebook.com/groups/imeimagic

I suspected that there some sort of sim lock, as I was able to get access to a different franklin t9 and swapped my sim into it but I wasn't able to get any service. As soon as I swapped it back into the original franklin t9 it started working again. I believe this might be the case with the new t-mobile sims that they are giving out instead of the old sprint sims

Whether CYA or not it is rather explicit. And just because in the past a particular workaround was usable does not guarantee it into the future. Seems Calyx took advantage of Sprint's tolerance but Sprint is no more.

Even IMEI cloning will be no guarantee going forward as carriers evolve new ways of detecting ToS violators. I suspect this coming year when all the carriers completely drop 3G (AT&T in Feb, T-Mobile in July and Verizon at the end of 22) will be a exciting year for those trying to use phone plans for data.
