slow uplink speeds on new setup WE826-T & EM 7455

Post by Rrutl »

I'm kinda new to the 4G modem world but after flashing Golden Orb on my setup and getting a Verizon Unlimited Data sim, connected to band 13, I'm noticing a slower than expected upload speed. I mounted twin 16dbi yagis, (at 90 degree angles to each other) pointed at my pre determined tower direction and after running multiple speed tests, I'm perplexed. Admittedly I'm still on the learning curve here and I have considered band locking on band 5 (850 mhx range) as of yet haven't taken that step. The tower doesn't seem to be overcrowded, and without any other traffic on my lan, I would like to diagnose the issue, and as with other tech pursuits, I've found that seeking the help and advice of users of this similar tech is invaluable in attaining solutions. I will offer my thanks in advance to anyone offering whatever insight they can. I had toggled the TTL rules to '65' but then switched it back off once I had taken my phone's sim out and installed the modem sim. In the meantime I will continue searching the forum for any similar issues and potential answers. I'm quite excited to have a vastly improved internet connection out here in the boonies where I live and if I can solve this one it'll be a relief. My download results have been in the 10-16 mbs range but up loads were 100-120 mbs any help appreciated.

There could be a ton of reasons for this.

Am I understanding you correctly that you had an upload of 100mbs??

Hello Rrutl,

Unless if I mistaken, you don't precised if you change the power supply from "12V 1A" to "12V 2A" ? Because I guess the Sierra EM7565 has an equivalent power consumption than the Sierra EM7455.

https://thewirelesshaven.com/shop/routers/lte-rou ... te-router/
"We strongly recommend upgrading to our top quality 12V 2.5A (30W) power adapter when using the Sierra Wireless EM7565 CAT12 modem. One must not underestimate the importance of providing adequate power to the router and modem."

I study that configuration because I try to flash my WE826-T for EM 7455, but I've a problem with the "software OpenWRT-OS-V1.0" which isn't allowing to have access to the root account. For the moment I wait for the seller answer, but I've doubts about his participation to fix the glitch...

I hope that will improved the quality of signal reception. My solution was to create an extension from my ATX computer power supply, but the WE826-T stays stuck.

A minimum of 12V | 2 AMP is required for the EM7455.

This is some of the issues with the WE826-T2 that are purchased with the newer firmware.

You will need to upload GoldenOrb using the BOOT LOAD METHOD

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. I adapt the Windows method for Linux Ubuntu :
https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=8& ... 2149#p2149

I'm disappointed because I don't find how to check in command if the Sierra EM7455 is recognized by Lucy_openWRT_18.6.1_GO2019-03-10 ?

Does openWRT_18.6.1 recognized the Sierra EM7455 ?

Kind regards

Nicolas

It all depends on what EM7455 you are using, whether it is a Dell or Panasonic branded modem. They all seem to have different VID/PID numbers which may need to be included in the firmware.

Some change the PID/VID of the vendor branded EM7455.

You may want to try the WiFiX build as we have a wider selection of PID numbers included in the build.
openwrt-we826-GO2019-03-06-upgrade.bin
If not, you will need to add them manually.

Hello again Jim,
and thank you Rrutl for allow me to use your post.

I tried openwrt-we826-GO2019-03-06-upgrade.bin and then I downgrade to openwrt-we826-GO2018-11-03-upgrade.bin

As precised in the tutorial :
https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=18

The "Custom TTL settings" were validated as mentioned.

"Network Manager" with Ubuntu allow a connection with a 4G Key with specifications :
Number : *99#
Username : fra
APN : fra
Password : fra
Network ID : 20815
x allow roaming
Pin : 1234

First of all, how can I know if the EM7455 is recognized by the system ? Is it necessary to flash the EM7455 ?

Second question, how it's possible to fix the provider number because he's renting antennas to the main French owner, who isn't really allowing the SIM modem connection. Of course the closest antenna isn't one of the main provider...

I try to precised in "Connection profile > advanced" the lock option provider but I guess I have to fill the "Custom DNS server", and I don't know how to do it for the moment.
I tried this configuration :
Lock Connection to a provider : Yes
Provider country code : *99#
Provider network code : 20815

Do you know how I can save that profile if it's exact ? What is the minimum of informations requested to lock the provider please ?

Thank you for your patience and your help.

Can you enter AT Commands on the terminal. What happens if you enter ATI

You can also look at the bottom of the MODEM > DEBUG INFORMATION > DEVICE INFORMATION and see the modem there along with the Vendor and Product ID (VID\PID)

If you cannot enter AT Commands, then you will most likely need to add the VID/PID to the firmware. See this tutorial on doing so: https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=34#p461

You should be able to ADD a CUSTOM PROFILE under the MODEM >CONNECTION PROFILE > CUSTOM PROFILES.

Thank you for the quick answer.

Bad new, I guess SSH command lines didn't detected the Sierra EM7455, just USB Sierra, and not the pciexp :

Do you think the danielewood method can fix the problem if I integrate the Sierra EM7455 in my laptop ?
https://github.com/danielewood/sierra-wireless-modems

Sierra has communicated drivers source on the website :
https://source.sierrawireless.com/devic ... es/em7455/
https://source.sierrawireless.com/resou ... re-latest/

Is it possible to install the Sierra program bin from System>Software in the OpenWRT interface ?
Do you know an other method please ?

That will assure it will be here for others to refer to--as opposed to links that may not be here next week.

Understood Jim.

If we fix the glitch and if you're agree for this post I'll done an equivalent tutorial at :
"Method to upload the good .bin file in the WE-826 on Linux Ubuntu with a RJ45 wire"

Do you think that will changed something if I flash the Sierra EM7455 under an Ubuntu laptop with the Sierra files ?

It may not hurt. You have never said what brand of EM7455 it is:

As I posted on the tutorial I listed above:
If it is the Dell DW5808 or Panasonic, there is the possibility that the VID and PID may need to be changed to work properly.

The OEM Dell DW5808 is normally locked in USBCOMP #9 which is MBIM with no AT ports which may trequire a little work to use

Jim,

Thank you for your help and your motivation to solve my difficulties.
Unless if I mistaken about your localization you're an amazing Texan.

About the brand precision.
Below the transcription of the device specified on the card.

Sierra Wireless AirPrime TM
Model : EM7455 QUALCOMM_4G
Product in Vietnam
LF716589960410
4428791000015A2040
442879100015 Windows
02.24.03.00 NO_GPS_1.0

I didn't found the option to send picture on the web site.

Do you know the way to change the VID or PID for this card ?

Several people use that configuration on wirelessjoint.com, so I guess that should be possible.
The good exercise at this step, because we're at the third page of a "Rrutl" post, is maybe a better formulation for a new post title ?

You will most likely need to change the vendor and product ID on the EM7455. There is a lot on information available to do this. I would do a search for "changing the PID VID on EM7455"
