Need to Updated FW?
Hello
I have a MC7455 purchased from The Wireless Haven about 18 months ago installed in a WE 826-T2 router. I am getting what appear to be random failures of the connection between the router and the modem. Sometimes (once or twice a day) this happens and it fixes it's self. When it doesn't fix it's self most of the time this can be fixed by rebooting the router, System>Reboot click Reboot Button. But some times nothing I know to do from the UI will get the connection up again (cannot get connection between modem and router working to send AT commands). So I have to take a hike out to the well house and power down the router to reset set everything . I believe that this has also been happening with the older FW versions I have used in the router before.
The modem FW is:
at+gmr
SWI9X30C_02.24.05.06 r7040 CARMD-EV-FRMWR2 2017/05/19 06:23:09
OK
The router FW is:
Hostname
ROOter
Model
ZBT-WE826 (16M)
Architecture
MediaTek MT7620A ver:2 eco:6
Firmware Version
GoldenOrb_2021-03-06 ( OpenWrt 19.07.6 )
Kernel Version
4.14.215
Is there a way to cycle the power to the modem from LuCi (UI) or by ssh connection to the router?
Will updating the firmware on the modem help this problem? I have not tried this in the past because I fear bricking the modem.
I have saved some logs from when this happens but don't really know what to look for so I may not have saved the correct parts.
TIA
John

Re: Need to Updated FW?
A lot of the T2 routers came with 1A power supplies, I would upgrade to a 2.0 or better yet a 2.5A power supply. Might be a decent first step. You can also load the latest version of the OS here:
I think the T2 needs this one...
we826-GO2021-01-22.zip
The others above it are for the newer Q models.

Re: Need to Updated FW?
I am using the The Wireless Haven supplied 2A power supply for the router. AC power is supplied through a UPS/filter. The line voltage here tends to run at the high side of typical tolerance. The cable supplying the well house is 5X cross sectional area required by code for the length and current drawn.
From what I can tell I am using nearly the latest FW for the WE 826 not Q version.
Does anyone have thoughts, experience, advise on updating the modem FW?
Does this have anything to do with IP6 being used?
TIA
John

Re: Need to Updated FW?
Hi
After a few days of mostly staying connected I have noticed that the modem/router seems to loose the connection every 14 hours. Right now I am on a run with everything automatically reconnecting as it should with about 1.1 minutes of lost connect time. Back in the day when I worked on automated weather data collection systems we would think this is indicating some sort of buffer overflow or memory leak in the firmware either in the modem or the router.
Here is a typical system log file from during the disconnection/re-connection event . The disconnect starts at 03:57:10 and everything is finally reconnected at 03:58:23. All the event codes don't mean anything to me.
Here is the kernel log from the same time period.
Is there a better forum to post about this so the experts can see what is happening?
TIA
John

Is there a better forum to post about this so the experts can see what is happening?
TIA

Re: Need to Updated FW?
Not much information in the logs posted pertaining to what actually happened.
Tue Apr 6 03:42:13 2021 daemon.notice netifd: wan1 (3423): udhcpc: lease of 48.85.81.232 obtained, lease time 7200
Tue Apr 6 03:57:10 2021 kern.info kernel: [153981.340559] usb 1-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 11
It is only indicating the the USB device was disconnected. The rest of the log is normal disconnect/reconnect. Will need to dig in further to find out the cause.
The experts are over at 'forums.whirlpool.net.au' for the most part. They may be able to help you track it down. I can't recall right off hand if extra logging needs to be enabled and under what name it is stored, but most logging and such is stored in /tmp if you SSH into the device.

Re: Need to Updated FW?
You could update the firmware to the modem, but I would do the the following first:
1. What is the signal status, if its weak I would upgrade to a 2.5A power supply or change out to a panel antenna if you have not already done so.
2. If that does not work, I would update to the latest version of rooter. Can you post what version you have.
3. Disable IPV6
4. If that does not work, I would update the firmware on the modem, you will need a USB sled to do so.
I have had routers that random disconnects because the signal was too weak and needed a bit more from the PS.

Re: Need to Updated FW?
Thanks for the replies. The last day had disconnects and reconnects at 9:18 and 13:26 hours of connection time.
Typically my SINR runs between 9dB and 15dB depending on weather. I hop between Band 2 and Band 4 seemingly randomly. The CA on this tower is Band 12 with low bandwidth of 1.4 MHz when it is received. A typical Gstatus is:
I have a new 5A power supply that I was waiting for a total power cycle crash to install.
I don't really know how to disable IPV6. All my wife's Apple and Google toys seem to want to use it.

Re: Need to Updated FW?
Disable IPV6, going off memory but
1. Network
2. Interfaces
3. Look for the LAN interface, it will have br- something under it, go into that
4. At the bottom is DHCP
5. Under advanced is drop downs to disable IPV6
Have to do something with the WAN interface for LTE, will dig up steps once I'm home, but the above keeps the clients from using it.
