WG1608 with EM160R

Post by RJ2021 »

Hi, I just got a new WG1608 with an Quectel EM160R Modem. I'm having issues getting the router connected to the internet.

I can get the modem to connect by changing the WAN1 network interface to a static IP setting and it automatically gives me 192.168.0.1. It gives me a message in the log (Hostless modem #1 connected with 192.168.0.1)

My router is on 192.168.1.1 and can't get to the internet.

My question is what is the best way to set this up so I can get the router connected to the internet?

Thanks
RJ

How are you hooking up to the router to try and get to the internet? Ethernet cable in a LAN port to a PC? Wifi? Ethernet cable in the WAN port to a PC?

Does the modem show connected to the cellular network on the Modem->Network Status screen?

Ethernet to PC...the Modem at first would not connect..I changed the interface to Static IP and the modem connected via Hostless with 192.168.0.1 The router didn't like it so I had to set the EM160R to MBIM mode with the AT+QCFG="usbnet",2
command. The router came up immediately after changing the modem setting.

Do you have your modem connected to the router in an external USB enclosure?
That's the only time I've seen a modem (or phone) create a 192.168.0.1 hostless modem interface which is actually normal, it doesn't have to be the same at the router's main IP 192.168.1.1 to work. If you have the modem installed inside the router, then you shouldn't see the hostless modem interface under Modem > Network Status

Your issue was likely solved by witching from QMI to MBIM mode, though QMI is preferred for higher speeds.
As Didneywhorl has mentioned, there are many variables can affect a mobile connection, such as the modem's make/model/firmware, the router's make/model/firmware, and the carrier being used.
