NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Well, the hardware was fairly simple to put together (except for a missing screw to hold the modem into the adapter).
I turned on the NEXR5GO, got logged in and it appears to see my modem, sim card, and phone number. However, the connectivity section was blank. I don't know if this means it is not seeing a cellular signal, or it's not seeing one it can process because I haven't set things up.
Now, sadly, I'm stuck. I've set APNs on phones before, with the various values. Looking through the tutorials, I'm not sure where to begin. Is there dummies guide to setting up the configuration? It does not appear, in the least bit, to be intuitive to me and I've worked with computers and programming all my life. I must be missing some key knowledge to head in the right direction.... but I don't know what that is.
I do note, that one google thread said the correct apn was VZWINTERNET; however, my phone was set to VSBLINTERNET. I still am not sure how to proceed as nothing I have tried has worked so far.
Thank you.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Have you activated it with the app on a phone?
Edit: Sorry if that's a silly question. I guess if the modem sees the phone number you've probably activated it.
Correct APN is VSBLINTERNET.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Did you use this tutorial to set up the WiFiX firmware on the router?
https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=233
This needs to be done.
Also when you do the TTL settings on the turtorial to the left on that tab there is "custom rules". Put this in the custom rules below and hit the reset button or what it says in there.
#start TTL rules
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 64
iptables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 64
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
I don't know if it's relevant but I know when you put a Visible SIM in a Pepwave, you have to tell it in the admin UI "Generic", not "Verizon". I don't know what that does but I just saw in a "similar topics" thread below here this command which I suspect is the same thing.
AT!IMPREF="GENERIC"

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Once all that is done need to do AT commands to get this going.
In the firmware go to "Modem" "Miscellaneous "AT-Command Terminal" "AT Command"
In that space there will put these command one at a time waiting for response of ok each time.
Once this is done will want to insert the sim card then power cycle the router.
at!entercnd="A710"
at!usbcomp=1,3,1009
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","VSBLINTERNET"
at+cgdcont=1,"IPV4V6","VSBLINTERNET"
at!reset

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Thank you all for replying. All of that is done now. However, I am still getting the same thing. If I go to Network Status I see the following:
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Modem: sees my Sierra modem
Provider: Connecting
Comm Port: /dev/ttyUSB1
MOD/SIM
Show all my info
SIM Name: Line 1
SIGNAL INFORMATION
a hyphen / dash is shown for all values.
CELL INFORMATION
a hyphen / dash is shown for all values
Debug AT0Command log shows a lot of these:
today's date / time : dev/ttyUSB1 AT+CPMS="SM"
+CPMS: 0,0,0,0,0,0
OK
The log is full of them.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
As a point of clarification, I put my sim card in the adapter for the modem. There is, however, a sim card adapter on the motherboard as well. Should my SIM card have gone there?
Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
I changed the SIM card location and it is now connecting; however, it is so slow that fast.com only shows 0, and speedtest.net can't even load. googling "test" took over 10 seconds to get a reply.
Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Put it in adapter that goes on the side of the router. Put it this way. Shouldn't have to use a screw driver to insert the SIM card.hayedid wrote: Thu Dec 17, 2020 9:59 pm As a point of clarification, I put my sim card in the adapter for the modem. Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
After rebooting (unplugging and plugging back in), it is working like it did before I swapped the position of the SIM card. ie. says "Connecting", but there is no signal information.

Are sure that your "custom rules" are set next to "custom ttl settings"?
In the firmware go to "Modem" "Miscellaneous "Cellular Mode" "Current Cellular Mode"
Make sure this is set to "Automatic"
Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
I agree with your conclusion that it is not connecting.
I tried the custom rules settings described above. I also tried these:
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 65
iptables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 65
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65
ip6tables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65

Are you sure that the apn is set correctly?
Never did understand the difference between the sim card places?
Said one place it would connect and another it wouldn't?

Also make sure you set the IPV6 and IP4 TTL settings to 65 or 64. Try each.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
They are round and about 8 inches tall. I don't think it is an antenna issue because with my phone I get a strong signal (4-5 bars usually)... and the system doesn't show a weak signal... the signal shows dashes because it is not connected at all.
.... and... the signal was fine before the reboot. I am suspecting something to do with those firewall rules, but honestly, I have no idea. I am beginning to get my head around this... but am still working to better understand those firewall commands.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Just making sure your not using the ones that came with the router, for LTE. Since those are RP-SMA antennas. I've done it, and have seen it recently with another. If you have replaced the antenna pigtails with mhf4 antenna pigtails then the antennas also need to be replaced; the LTE ones. Unless you replace them with MHF4 to RP-SMA female antenna pigtails.hayedid wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 12:05 pm They are round and about 8 inches tall. Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
I may have identified the issue. Now, the system says "No Modem". (Note... this new error occurred before I saw the message about IP6).
I checked connections and re-seated the cards, but that did not fix the issue.
Am I right in thinking this has been a flaky modem problem and it has just completely died.

Which firmware are you using on the modem? The Generic or the Verizon image?

Maybe, or a flaky adapter card. The modems rarely are found messed up.hayedid wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:37 pm I may have identified the issue. Now, the system says "No Modem". (Note... this new error occurred before I saw the message about IP6).

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Yes, they all do. Just making sure your fw image is set to the generic one. or the Verizon one. The EM7565 has 5 images on it. Should at least.
Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Didneywhorl,
Hello. Regarding the antenna question, thank you. I understand your concern there. I already had the appropriate antennas. Thanks for checking though.
On the firmware image, I will have to check into that. I paid extra to have 'generic firmware', so I assume it would be the active one.
Regarding the 'no modem' messages. Someone emailed me to check the debug information. It shows:
Sat Dec 19 18:54:46 2020 : /dev/ttyUSB Can't open device /dev/ttyUSB.
And, in the list of info
P: Vendor=1199 ProdID=9091 Rev= 0.06
S: Manufacturer=Sierra Wireless, Incorporated
S: Product=Sierra Wireless EM7565 Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X16 LTE-A
So, it seems the modem is still out there somewhere. That kinda made my day.
Thank you.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
I believe these were my problems along the way:
I had initially followed the instructions correct; however, I did not have the extra custom TTL Rules in there. When I did put them in there, I replaced what was already in there instead of adding to it, so I was still down.
Then, in trying to diagnose the problem, I likely copied and pasted or made a typo in an AT command and changed modem modes.
After fixing that, and getting the right TTL Rules in there, it started working.
Hopefully this will help another person.
