Tethering from a phone might be an option. If you use EasyTether, data will be counted as phone data, not hotspot. I have a Raspberry Pi running EasyTether and Wireguard. I'm in the process of writing a blog post describing it.

Re: Opinions on cellular boosters?
I'm running the latest Raspberry Pi OS (previously known as Raspbian), "buster" on a Pi 4.
I messed around a lot getting it working but I don't recall those problems. I basically plug in the phone and route -n shows tun-easytether at 192.168.117.0. I don't need to run easytether-usb. I think that ...

Opinions on cellular boosters?
I know that "cell boosters" are not a popular topic here but I wonder how well, or not, they really work.

Re: New here, need hotspot, or truly unlimited data help
I don't mean to nitpick but is NoLimitData really a MVNO? My understanding is that the likes of Mint, PagePlus and the carrier owned retailers like Visible and Cricket are MVNOs with agreements with the carriers and I think regulated by the FCC. The resellers seem to be simply reselling plans which ...

I just tried speedtest.net several times with and without the VPN and it's hard to notice any difference. I said 75% above but it's better than that. I usually get between 20 and 40 Mbps. I'm in Houston using T-Mobile with a Magenta Unlimited ...

Re: USB Tethering: How can I prevent the host from charging the phone/tablet?
I think I have a workable solution for this.
It's probably device dependent but, at least on my Moto G Power phone, there is a current level where the battery stops charging but the data still works.

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless
Have you activated it with the app on a phone?
Edit: Sorry if that's a silly question. I guess if the modem sees the phone number you've probably activated it.
Correct APN is VSBLINTERNET.

I don't know if it's relevant but I know when you put a Visible SIM in a Pepwave, you have to tell it in the admin UI "Generic", not "Verizon". I don't know what that does but I just saw in a "similar topics" thread below here this command which I suspect is the same thing.

As far as I know, most of the resellers are not MVNOs. I think real MVNOs like Cricket, Mint, Page Plus etc are registered with and regulated by the FCC. Re: AT&T Unlimited for Tablet Plan Question
I received my Android tablet and I can confirm that it works quite nicely with my EasyTether / WireGuard setup in a Raspberry Pi. It's not as fast as native tethering was on the iPad but I'm getting between 20 and 30 Mbps most of the time so still not too bad as a $20 per month "unlimited" hotspot.

Re: Wireguard on ROOter?
I will have to test the WireGuard built into the latest GoldenOrb, however that still doesn't solve the lack of your WiFi 5G. And the GL-AR750S will probably give you a little better performance too.

Re: AT&T Unlimited for Tablet Plan Question
If you're using an Android phone or tablet, there's no need to tie up a computer for EasyTether (consequently lose some speed and increase the latency), instead you could tether it directly to a mobile router via USB or WiFi. Here's how to do it:
