WE1326 and MC7455 Slow issues

Post by wes992 »

Hello, I am having isues where I can only average about 500kbps after setting up the WE1326 and MC7455 on Tmobile per the tutorials. I have tried with both the WiFiX Firmware and the GoldenOrb Firmware. I have gone through the troubleshooting Tutorials and I have reset, reinstalled, and even tried switching the cords connected to the Modem.

When I perform speed tests on my phone and on my tablets that are also on the Tmobile Network, I am consistently pulling between 120mbps and 160mbps on them. Based on trial and error, I am thinking I am not getting CA with the Router.

Is there anything that I can do to help with that?

When I run the "at!gstatus" command, this is what is returned:

Code: Select all

at!gstatus?

You definitely aren't getting CA, but you should get more than 500kbps, based on those signal stats which look pretty decent.

Did you go through this tutorial? https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=224

The only thing that jumps out is the RCC Idle which is one the carrier side.

I would follow this TUTORIAL on refreshing the build using THIS GO2019 firmware build. And use the custom TTL settings.

After following the tutorial and applying a custom TTL (I've tried 65 and 64), I'm now averaging .1mbps. ☹️When I try to select network mode, the highest option available is 4g only. Does that mean the firmware isn't recognizing LTE as an option? Also, when selecting custom TTL, I have options for 63, 62 as well. It seems to me, TMobile is still viewing the line as using mobile hotspot data and have it throttled. Does that sound plausible and is there a way around it??

Are you running the modem in QMI or MBIM mode?

MBIM, I believe.
Before running the "at!usbcomp=1,1,1009" command, I could get approximately 500kbps. After running it, with TTL not enabled, or even enabled and set to either 65 or 64, that's where I am seeing the .1mbps.

Question: How much data have you used this month on the T-Mobile SIM. If the TTL's were not enabled, then the data was going against the hotspot allotment. Is it possible to have used up that amount?

I've used 200mb so far. It's an unlimited TMobile ONE Tablet plan. The only time it should even remotely slow is during de-prioritization, which is after 50gb. I actually checked that today.

I seem to recall someone else once having an issue with a T-Mobile tablet plan. Might do a search on the forum for T-Mobile.

I use a WE826 and MC7455 with a TMO phone plan to run my cameras and security system without issue. I assume the tablet plan uses the same APN as the phone plan?

Yea, they use the same APN. On your 826, is it b/g/n only? I opted for the 1326 just because the AC component. Also, on your setup, your sim card is coded as phone line(VOICE) through Tmobile and not a tablet line(MI)?

Yes, the WE826-T is 2.4GHz N only. But that does not make a difference in the LTE Connection. All the devices connected to this router is hardwired so WiFi was of little concern.

Yes, it is an unlimited, Phone SIM card. Do you have a phone SIM to try in the router?

Okay, so...

I tried putting a Phone SIm(coded as a voice line to T-Mobile) in the router, and made several speed tests. I tried TTL 64 and65, QMI and MBIM modes, having/Not having it set to LTE only and every combination I could think of. The best/most consistent results yielded were when I put the modem in MBIM mode, set it to LTE only, set the custom TTL to 65.

I came out with an average of 17mbps down and 21mbps up, which is pretty decent, all things considered (when I am barely getting 500kbps with a Tablet Sim). It is quite odd how that is such a drastic difference between the two line types.

However, I am still not getting CA with any way I try to set it up. And when I put the SIM that I did these test with back into my phone, I am pulling 120+ down and 50+ up(probably due to CA).

As for my follow up question, do you know of anyway that I can achieve CA with this setup? You have been a tremendous help already, and I hate to keep asking questions, but at least we are making progress for future people!!
Thank you again Jim!!

The difference in speed between the phone and MC7455 are most likely due to the category difference (i.e., CAT6 vs CAT12...18) in the two devices, and the bands that are available for each device. We see this on the EM7565 CAT12 (3 x carrier aggregation and band 66) verses the MC7455 CAT6 (with 2 x carrier aggregation).

The tablet plans is somewhat of a mystery. What we are noticing, at least for the AT&T prepaid, unlimited iPad plans, is that the model of iPad and IMEI effects (i.e., restricts) the LTE Bands available to that iPad. We have seen a number of cases where the iPad that was used to activate the plan was a 3G device, and when the SIM card was placed behind a MC7455, it was limited to 3G only. This was unexpected for the AT&T network.

You will never notice CA on the modem stats unless you are pulling data or even running a speed test.

Though a late reply, it might help others too....

Before wasting any time trying to diagnose the modem/router, try a speed test using a phone with the router's sim card inside. That should give you a general idea of what kinds of speeds to expect in your area.

For testing purposes, try the following APN's:
epc.tmobile.com
fast.tmobile.com
fast.t-mobile.com
pcweb.tmobile.com

Also try turning off IPv6 in both the modem (via AT commands if available) and/or router, then run the speed test again.
Last but not least, speeds may also be affected by the MTU value. Generally 1492 or 1500 should work, but I've seen cases where it had to be lowered to the low 1400's. Try different settings in both the router and/or computer.
Make sure to reboot the router after each and every change.
