Questions about Simple Mobile

Post by DSYLEXC »

Long story short, looking into a career change and going to drive a truck (trucking is my second childhood dream job, first one, my current employment, starting to suck) and I've been looking different data plans as I play PC video games and have online TV service through AT&T TV Now. Also watch a lot of Netflix, YouTube, and Twitch.

I've been lurking this website for about a week now because I'm interested in this Simple Mobile (on T-Mobile) data plan with the 480p video cap disabled, but I have a few questions. I'm looking for some input from those of you who have experience using large amounts of cell data. Maybe you can guide me in the right direction.

I think I would ideally like to have 2 different unlimited hotspot services in case I'm in an area where I don't have the best service with one. I purchased both Simple Mobile and Page Plus sim cards but I just recently got access to a grandfathered Verizon prepaid unlimited hotspot. So if that doesn't pan out, I still might be activating that Page Plus sim.

Does the Simple Mobile data only plan need to be used in a hotspot type device or can I use in in an unlocked iPad and still use the hotspot feature?

I would prefer the iPad route, but If not, can you recommend a device to use with Simple Mobile? There was a link posted, in another thread here, to a store selling devices but due to COVID they are currently closed. Anything I can purchase on Amazon or eBay?

Any and all input is greatly appreciated. :ugeek:

Welcome to the forums!

Regarding your question—the stage of technical maturity of which you ask currently is best described as hobbyist. I recently burned through 150 dollars over several days in service plans to learn a somewhat obvious lesson (it happens). If you are going to be working full time on your rig, you likely don’t want to be futzing with your solution after a hard day so you can email family and watch an episode or three. Of course, I’ve been wrong before.

Consider a toe-in-the-water approach for an initial try, like going through a MVNO that directly supports what they sell (I did the same, and Ubifi.net has been very decent for me to get familiar with things). They are not as cheap as they once were, but I’ve had very few issues with their service (sort of unlimited AT&T essentially—within reason), though I have begun to outgrow them.

Just some kind words of advice—do what you will—and wishing you the best in your new career!

T-Mobile One+ International Plan

This will retire soon real soon if you want it. What this will do is allow you to have phone service and unlimited hot spot data on your phone.

It is a easy simple solution since just for one person. Know someone that uses this on a phone to game and it works.
