EM12G in ZBT-1608 : GoldenOrb_2021-08-15 ( OpenWrt 21.02.0-rc3 )

Hi All,

I've had good success for the last year with an EM12G on a Verizon post paid plan. Can a modem just "ninja brick" where it reports correct parameters, but is never going to work?

I hope I'm missing something obvious. I try to be through and scientific, but I'm far from a subject expert ...

Re: WG-1608 Bricked no LEDs

I had the included 12w power brick fail on mine, and later the 24w one that I pulled out of the power supply bin also failed.

The one thing I've noticed it that the DC plug connector on the board is inset a bit from the front of the case. The standard ~8mm depth that most DC barrel connectors have ...

Thank's BillA

I have followed your USB teather guide with an old phone. I've been up and running with that. I actually just updated the FW this past weekend.

Re: Thoughts on Mikrotik RBM11G / RBM33G

I've got the RouterOS to see my modem and that is about it. I can send AT commands and get responses. It can see my sim and IMEI of my modem. It even will scan and tell me that there is a Verizon tower near me, just nothing past that.

I'm way out of my depth with the MikroTiK firmware RouterOS ...

You ever get this going?

I'm bench testing a RBM33G and an EP06 at the moment. Using the ROS v7.xx beta firmware, I'm close but the ROS is some DANK software.

Had to power cycle the router a couple times but it's been pretty solid @ ~50 x 3Mbps the entire time. Already 80Gb this month.

You are going to want a m.2 interface modem for that wg1608, like an Em06 or better.

I've got an ep06-a useless next to my wg1608, currently tethering a phone to it to connect a WAN.

Re: USB tether US Verizon post paid, now only WiFi hotspoting works

So it occurred to me that not having a cap on Netflix means that it thinks I'm using hotspot data. Since mobile data is capped at 5Mbps or so. No idea if this is correct.

I set it back down to 65 across the board. Still can't get the dang usb drivers to work in Rooter though.

I've used the stock Mikrotik Routerboard firmware on several traditional networks, I've no experience with WWAN setups with them, and I've never flashed alternative firmware onto them.

I'm attracted to the RBM11G because I have no need for WiFi and have a managed POE switch at the center of my LAN ...

WG1608 is kicking my ass

I tried to go my own way, and I'm failing. I purchased a WG1608 and an EP06-a modem from ebay.

On Verizon I get about 50/5Mbps on my cell phone hot spot when I leave it in a window.

The WG1608 showed up with only an M.2 slot and not both m-PCI-e and m.2 I can't get the USB mPCI-e adapter to be ...

I refused to use a magnifying glass and then when I soldered some pins together, wick to get the pins unstuck I pulled the pad right off the board.

I got my m-PCI-e header in today. I went with an 8mm height one, from mouser.
Probably going to give it a try this weekend. I forgot to order 0.3mm solder so I need to source that, I'm not going to do this with 0.8mm solder.

Why such a low modem for the 4x4 mimo ready router? Saving money? The original version with both slots is cool as heck. They are now only selling the WG1608 in 2 seperate versions. The WG1608-5G and WG1608-M or something. One has the M.2 slot only, the other mpcie only. They made them dual slot ...
