Re: wg1608/quec em12 - randomly powers down
If I may ask, where did you get the QFirehose flasher for the EM12G?
Yessir it comes already bundled/installed with rooter and I used the fw that quectel emailed me. I then I used this method with a usb drive and putty to execute QFirehose command on my 1608 16mb variant.

Re: wg1608/quec em12 - randomly powers down
Update: Seems like the issue is resolved. Here is what I did:
1) Asked on quectel forums for the latest firmware and got a circa 2023 one EM12GPAR01A21M4G_01.203.01.203.zip (newer than the ones on that github page I think)

Good advice BillA . I've not flashed the em12 before since it's been problem free. I will see if I can do it with qfirehose and/or try to find m2 sled I bought years back.

Yes ~2 years ago I removed the lid of the 1608 and put a finned cpu heatsink on the em12g's metal shield held in place with white thermal compound. It reduced the temperature by some but I doubt its nesecary in the environment I have it in.

Been using my wg1608 GoldenOrb_2023-07-26 ( OpenWrt 22.03-SNAPSHOT )/em12 for a couple years and recently been losing connection randomly once or twice a day. Was having the issue again all of a sudden. Tried everything mentioned in my original post but nothing worked.
Decided to try upgrading from my old 2020 version of rooter to the latest.
Now everything works great. Currently have it set to ipv4 only but havent played around with things much.

Interested in what you find out.
It appears the silkscreened labels on the board label the pins from left to right as Ground, tx, rx, 3v3
I think that may mean those pins are for testing transmission/receive etc?

Thanks Jim, that seems to work.
By the way, is it normal for the modem to take ~1 minute to be recognize and then another ~minute or two to connect to the tower? Is this something that can be set to go faster via editing settings?

Unplugging power from router vs using reboot
Maybe it is coincidence but it seems like unplugging my router and waiting a bit then replugging it in has a different effect than rebooting it via the rooter page interface (System > Reboot)
For example, the tower I lock onto nearby is in the middle of no where, no chance of congestion.
