EM9191 holding a 5g connection?

Post by arnaut »

I have a NEXS2GO, EM9191, and the 5g paddle antennas all from wireless haven. I've been running this setup for a few months off a tmobile sim.

So far it has worked decently but one thing that is frustrating me is how spotty the 5g connection is. It typically stays with the 4g bands. It's very rare that I ever see it in NSA mode.

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong because my cell phone basically gets full bars 5g on n41. The tmobile map even shows that my location gets n41/71.

If it helps at all my apn is fast.t-mobile.com with a ttl of 64. (ttl didn't seem to change speed all that much.)

My gstatus is a bit unusual atm because it seems to only want to use band 2 today. Speed hasnt been different though.

cnum and cpin? return the correct respond. The only thing I've actually done to this is magic it. Also ordered the firmware update from wireless haven when I got it.

Is there just something up with the EM9191, or am I missing some configuration? I find it really hard to believe I can't get a strong 5g signal off 4 paddle antennas when my phone is going full blaze.

This is bad. You need to reflash the firmware. You said you "repaired" your imei. If you did it via nvreset, this is a problem until you reflash the firmware.

What does

Code: Select all

AT!IMAGE?
output?

Ill have to reflash the firmware I suppose. There's what you asked for though.

Also I'll try to look it up but if there's any info on flashing or getting the right files that'd be great. Thanks!

Tried to test if I could bandlock to n41 with this.

Code: Select all

AT!BAND=12,1,"n41 SA",4,0000010000000000,0000000000000000
Ended up with this error in the modem logging. Running goldenorb_2022-11-15

Code: Select all

Obviously nothing works. Here's what i get with AT!band=00. Is there just something still funky with the em9191 and the wifixnes2go? I had a little luck with 5g after fixing the firmware but now I'm basically 4g all the time. I'm wondering if it's just t-mobile or if I have something configured wrong.

It's hard to say. I used to not get n41 to save my life, now I can only get it to do Stand alone n41 and not NSA n41 with the available lte bands. No hardware or settings changes. Aggravating. It's got to be how Tmobile is setting up the towers and bands.

Yeah I think so too. Anyway they just emailed me today about the Tmobile home internet being available to me, so I'm getting that. Going to see how load balancing off the nexs2g0 with the em9191 and tmo gateway go.
