WE826-T MC7455 Verizon Postpaid questions

Post by MrJeff01 »

HI all,

I was able to get my hands on a Sierra Wireless MC7455 modem out of a dead Cisco router so had half of what I needed already. I ordered the WE826-GO and got everything running - sort of.

I didn't have a spare sim so I ordered one from Verizon which required the IMEI number off of the modem. When ordered, Verizon immediately listed it as some model of Cisco router before it was even turned on. I had no problem activating it and after receiving the SIM and changing the basic settings in GoldenOrb_2020-03-07 was able to get this online and working in the basic sense.

So far I have not gotten it to work as "tablet data" and is always showing as "Hotspot data" although I was just able to change the firmware on the modem to the generic firmware today so that may be why. It takes me a day to find out what kind of data is used on my Verizon account.

I called them today because with my plan I qualify for 50% off hotspot/tablet charges, but this device per Verizon does not qualify because its showing as a "router" and not a "hotspot". How can they tell what kid of device it is? is it just based on the IMEI or is the modem communicating to them about it? The tech said if I put the sim in a Jetpack instead, the account would automatically see that and update the billing even.

Its still not bad if I can get the TTL change to make data detect as tablet data, but maybe I'm missing something?

Thanks for any help/guidance. I looked at a bunch of Verizon postpaid threads before posting but never saw an answer if they ever got them working.

Thanks!

-Jeff

Verizon identifies devices by imei. They know. <OminousSounds>

Yeah I sort of figured that. Of course the next thing that comes to mind was changing the IMEI but that being illegal I the US I don’t plan to go down that road.

Is your Verizon service good enough with outside antennas? Asking because if yes maybe there is a way to tether a tablet? If the speeds are good enough with it.
