Understanding the SIM card with the modem

Post by Devildog1968 »

Please forgive the noob questions, but I am a bit new to this.

I understand the necessity of the modem and the sim card. My question is, can I pull the sim out of a phone ad use it in the modem? I currently have an iPhone attached to a wap. We use up the data relatively quickly since the phone sees the wap as an external device.

Am I able to pull out the sim and add it to the modem I will add to say a we3526?
Do I need to do anything special?
Will this work? If not, what is wrong and what would I need to do?

Inserting a phone's sim card into a router will work in most cases, especially if the router has TTL settings (ex. WE826 or WG3526).
However, lately ATT has started clamping down on modem use, so you may want to stay away from them.

Thank you for the response. I am already using Verizon service. We have an iPhone which is linked to a wifi router as a modem, but we continuously get screwed by the 15GB limit.

I had a student recommend this site and set up. I have a device on order and hopefully will find the setup ad easy as the walkthroughs I have bee studying for the past few months.

I am sure I will break something along the way. It is the troubleshooter in me 🤪

Thank you to ever who has posted both questions and responses!

No problem... you should be able to bypass the 15GB data limit with an OpenWRT router by setting the TTL to 117.
By the way '68 was a good year for both of us. ;)
