EM 7565 with M2M NEXG H721 Router no connection

Post by wileydog »

Help,

First build. I put together a router using an EM 7565 and NEXG H721 router. Everything seems to have installed, router sees the modem. Firmware is up to date for both router and modem. I'm using an ATT SIM on an unlimited plan that was activated on an S7 and I even switched into another S7....both connected. However, in the router, I can't get the modem to connect, no internet. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Code: Select all

First, I would check to make sure the switch is in the Down Position--opposite the SIM Card slots.

Second, I would make sure the SIM card was installed in SIM Slot 2.

Third, it appears you are having issues with the MAIN antenna connector port on the modem--most likely the MHF4 connector has popped off or it is grounding against the metal portion of the modem.

Notice the difference on:

Code: Select all

PCC RxM RSRP: -139
PCC RxD RSRP: -103
The RxM represents the MAIN connector port on the modem, while the RxD is the AUX (Diversity) connector port on the modem.

Ideally, the two should be very close to one another.

Well, think that might have identified the issue. The SIM was installed in slot 2 and the switch was down. However, when I went to look at the Main antenna connector port...and re-seat the antenna wires....the connector on the modem came off, guess it was not installed correctly as this is a new build. Not the first time I have installed parts, just the first I have put together an LTE router.....

Yes, that will certainly do it.

It can be a rather tedious task to install the MFH4 connectors--not to mention reassembling the two cases without knocking one of them off.

Not an issue.

Working on an RMA of EM 7565 due to the antenna post separating from the modem board. I decided to upgrade to the Quectel EM20-G from the store, it is on the way. Upgraded the H71 to the WeFix Firmware (WiFiX-m2m-nexg-GO2019-12-23-upgrade). If I read correctly, the Quectel drivers are included in that version. Question, are there any specific AT commands I need to use, or can I configure through the WiFix interface (APN, etc) and power up?

Not alot of info on the modem available....thanks, still learning on how to build and run these. Moving to a rural location in a few months, so wanted to put this together to provide internet once I get there...

Additional info: This is for an AT&T unlimited plan SIM activated on an S7.

Thanks in advance....

I would use this new WiFiX firmware which supports the EM20-G in both MBIM and QMI mode.

You will need to set your APN to broadband, save and apply, do a power off/power on reboot, and you should connect.

Assume I can set the TTL through the WiFix firmware (custom TTL to 65) as well?

Apologize for another question, but better to confirm now. Are the pigtails that the EM20 uses the same as the EM7565 (Pigtails: 2 x MHF4 to SMA Female Bulkhead 1.13 Pigtails)?

Could not find anything in searches....

Thanks, think that should do it for the replacement modem!

Yes, but because it is 4 x 4 MIMO, it requires:

2 x MHF4 to SMA Female Bulkhead 5 inch 1.13 pigtails, and,
2 x MHF4 to SMA Female Bulkhead 8 inch 1.13 pigtails (to make it easy).

I would also consider using new pigtails on this modem to avoid potentially damaging the modem antenna connector ports--which are pretty delicate. Small investment in the grand scheme of things.

success!

Received the EM20 today and installed, adding the additional 2 antennas for the 4X4 MIMO. Powered on and the router/modem connected to cell tower and I now have internet. Getting about double the bandwidth as compared to my S9, signal is pretty weak here, but got up to 12Mbs vs around 4 with my phone....but seems I am averaging around 7 with the modem over several speed tests, but enough for my purposes and this modem will be relocated to my Farm in a couple months.

Thanks for the support!

FWIW, tools like the one below are indispensable for safely installing & removing MHF4 cables onto the modem antenna connectors:

jmmec:

Newbie question...whats the best method in using the MHF4 insertion tool ....

Do I load the connector on the tool and then bring to the modem connection or is there a better way to insure that I do not damage the connetor on the modem board?
