RM510Q-GL not connecting to 5G on Calyx Sim

Hey all. I've been having some troubles setting up my RM510Q-GL (magic applied) with a WG3526 router (on GoldenOrb) and 5G Calyx Sim. I'm also using a M.2 to USB 3 adapter for the modem.

I can't get it to connect to 5G. When I use the command

AT+QNWPREFCFG="mode_pref",nr5g
to lock to 5G bands, the modem just doesn't connect and hangs on "Waiting for network registration"

When I set

, sometimes I'm able to get it to connect to LTE on B71, but the internet speed is really slow.

I'm using r.ispsn for the APN as well.

I would set CGDCONT=3 as the same as #1. The #2 I would set as "otasn"

Disable SA 5G and let the router anchor to 4G bands if it wants to. AT+QNWPREFCFG=? should have the command. Cant recall it atm



The RM5xx series has like 4 different band sets. WCDMA, 4G, 5GNR_SA, and 5GNR_NSA. Each has to be set separately for band locking, if you band lock.

Alright, I did that and now it connects to band B12 which I believe is T-Mobile's Extended Range LTE.

None of the US carriers offer SA 5G (5G only). All of the major carriers use NSA 5G (ENDC, duel connectivity, 4G+5G). They use the 4G primary connection for control and the 5G for added upload/download capacity. There is a chance that 5G only is activated somewhere but for the most part it is ENDC for now. If you lock it down to 5G only then it will not connect more than likely as you have experienced. This is because the 4G band is for all of the control, authorization, authentication, etc. I'd guess it will be several years before they phase out the 4G portion. I've had best luck just leaving it set to 'automatic'. When you start locking down things it can cause problems later on with other things, at least it has for me. Seems the provider or tower side of things doesn't too much like being told what to do.

I see, but is there anything I can do to use this with 5G? At the moment, it's not connecting to 5G at all and only uses the Extended Range bands for LTE.

My goal with this setup was to get a more consistent connection with (possibly) better speeds than using the original MiFi M2000. I was able to get amazing download and upload speeds on 5G, but had connection drops at least once a day.

I'm not familiar with that carrier. Is there a chance the sim isn't provisioned for 5G? If not, what bands does that carrier use for their 5G service? Its possible your setup doesn't have the proper antennas to acquire the 5G frequency bands that they use. Maybe someone that uses them will chime in. I'd start with the 5G frequencies and your antennas and go from there.

To note, My Sprint based 5G Calyx SIM uses x.ispsn APN and is IPV6 only, though sometimes it gets an IPV4 address; usually not.

Hey all, sorry for the month hiatus. I bought a 5G 2x2 MIMO antenna to test with and I'm still having the same results. It connects to LTE B71 and I still get very sub-par speeds. Definitely better speeds than before (5mbps to 15mbps), but not even close to what I get on the MiFi M2000 (350mbps).

I also tried changing the APNs to x.ispsn with the same result.

Not sure what else to do. :/

I have noticed that the M2000 can use n41 5GNR SA whereas it seems the Quectel modems don't seem to have a solid connectivity scheme, or rooter maybe, for Standalone 5GNR.

More tinkering to do!
