WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
Hello everyone. Great forums, and great information is posted here daily.
However I'm at a lost, and wanted to reach out for assistance with my issue.
I have a WG1608 router with an EM20 modem. Works great, and can get high speeds on band 41. However it suffers every now and then from disconnections and I cant get it to work. After days, it somehow goes back to working. I'm sure there is something not setup right. Currently running latest 01/06 firmware from ofmodemsandmen.
The unit is setup for QMI mode.
Currently stuck at connecting, stays there...
A few other screenshots:
I have also attached the system log.
I have tried restating from the web interface, and powercycling the unit to no success.
Not sure what AT commands to send to troubleshoot this. Thank you for your help.

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
Can you say who your service provider is. I had the same problem with my service on band 41. I had a few things that fixed my issue. First was my apn, I'm thinking you may need to try a different one that's what I had to do. Second I disabled ipv6 because that was causing a issue somehow as my service tower didn't give out ipv6 address but my modem kept trying to connect and then it would kick me off. I also turned on connection monitoring with modem reconnect and ping 8.8.8.8. I can't say if all three need done for you but that combination fixed my problem with zero issues in 3 months.

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
I liked MBIM mode on my EM20 with Sprint/Calyx. Remember Tmobile is systematically changing the towers. You may have connection issues because the towers are being worked on.
Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
@ ryankinder3 - Yes, I saw your thread and followed some of the steps from didnetwhorl. However the APN is listed correctly. The service provider is Sprint.
@Didneywhorl - I'm not sure if the local towers are being worked on. We have one tower in roughly 8 mile radius. About 2 miles from me, and I consistently get great signal readings. I did notice that my Galaxy S9 no longer does 3CA, and only 2CA on B41. The speeds suddenly dropped (speed tests from S9) from 100Mbps download to about 20Mbps no matter the time of day.
I have noticed that the log consistently shows "AT+QNWPREFCFG="mode_pref"" ERROR.
Are there any commands I can try to get this to work again, I have 3 days without Internet at home ;-(
Thanks again!

I have not used the connection monitor, I may give it a try.
I cant find where I can disable IPV6 at the WAN interface, the LAN interface shows IPV6 disabled.
The modem keeps cycling through the following:

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
I should add i am running in qmi mode. As for disabling ipv6 I cant say if this is the correct way and all necessary but here is what worked for me.
under lan- ipv6 assignment length- disable
under lan, wan, wan6 general setup- uncheck use builtin ipv6 management
under wan6 general setup- request ipv6 address- disable
under wan6 deneral setup- request ipv6 prefix of length- disable

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
That is a command for the newer Quectel modems. Its just there as a general set of commands that are ran in the background.
The equivalent command for the EM20 is
Code: Select all
AT+QCFG="NWSCANMODE",3

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
Your logs show you signal strength is about 50% and that you are connected to a 3G band. WCDMA.
The NWSCANMODE shows to be 0. Set it to 3. Command is above.

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
What is very strange is that my Sprint S9 phone connects to band 41, without any issues.
I still had an old Netgear 6100D router. I swapped the SIM, and connected right away without issues, same as my phone.
So definitely no cellular issues on TMobile/Sprint.
Went back to the WG1608 and connected the SIM. Same issues.
I set the modem back to MBIM mode. Same issue. However I noticed on the logs this:
Wed Jan 29 16:24:21 2020 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan1' is setting up now
Wed Jan 29 16:24:21 2020 user.notice URL-DEBUG: hotplug (iface): action='ifup-failed' interface='wan1'

Wed Jan 29 16:24:50 2020 user.notice MBIM Connect: MBIM bringup failed, retry in 15s
Wed Jan 29 16:25:05 2020 user.notice MBIM Connect: Stopping network

I googled "netifd: wan1 (13840): Command failed: Permission denied" and came up with something about the firmware or version having issues for other users.
I wanted to revert to the older firmware 12-02 but but I noticed there was a newer firmware for the WG1608. 01/15/2020.
I applied the new firmware and the modem connected right away. FYI, for anyone having similar issues.
Thank you all for your help.

Re: WG1608 - Constant disconnections - Sprint
Here are some more band/network commands for newer Quectel modems (EM16, RM500Q, etc).
Note that in the US we use "nsa_nr5g_band", and "nr5g_band" in most other countries.
