First post...question about 4x4 MIMO

Post by dbarefoot »

First post here, always just lurked for answers.
So, I've been using LTE internet for the past 4 years with several different devices.

I just purchased an NEXQ6GO-M router and EM7565. I have it up and running.
I am lucky enough to have a VZW tower about 350-400 yards from my home
and get perfect signal. I do use a Proxicast Omni -10dbi antenna on my roof.

FYI...I'm noticing that I never get 3xCA on the EM7565, just 2xCA B66+B13 (router shows B12, but it VZW B13).
I'm assuming that 2xCA is all that the tower is capable of.

Will upgrading to another modem with 4 antenna connections (like the Quectel EM160R-GL CAT16)
so I can connect another antenna for 4x4 MIMO help increase my speed when I already have the
below signal strength?

Technically you MIGHT get more speed as there is more connections to the tower (pipes if you will) to transmit over, but there is no guarantee really.

Your tower likely is only supporting 2xCA when using that band as the anchor band. You might want to look at the 3xCA band possibilities in the EM7565 docs and see which combos are possible and which you have bands for on your tower. Keep in mind the order of the bands in the listings is important. The first band must be your anchor band, ie: the band of your primary or serving cell.

Thanks for replying. I posted this in the FB group as well. And after some discussion, someone pointed out that there are some driver/software glitches in the EM7565 were it will subtract 1 from the band. It is supposedly doing 3xCA but since it doesn't support Band65 it reports the SSC2 as Band 0, which is really B66. It also shows the SCC2 band as B12, but that is off by 1 as well. VZW uses Band 13.

So it appears my EM7565 is doing 3xCA as B66(10Mhz)+B66(5Mhz)+B13(10Mhz)
