You set the APN (IP4 & IP6) using AT commands, did you make sure it was also set correctly in Modem / Connection Profile / Default Profile? It sometimes does not get changed when you use AT commands. It of course needs to be VSBLINTERNET

To go cellmapper.net and enter in your address in "location search". If address fails, just your city/sate. Find your home. Select Verizon as carrier and "maybe" your closest tower appears. That is easiest way to find tower / bands. My steps may not be exact for cellmapper, but pretty easy to use and get basic info.

If I was you and still not connecting, would use reflash info @gscheb provided.

I feel for you, been in your shoes and it is frustrating to say the least.
Hello terryjett,
Am I correct in saying he is connected just without data thru put?
When I look at his report from at!gstatus? looks like it is connected to me.
Do you see that too? If not can you show me where it shows it isn't connected?

You are correct, I was wrong. Damn my eyes are getting worse and worse.

Try connecting again and browse a few different sites. Try https://www.bing.com/widget/t/speedtest, google.com, bing.com, and few others. Just to make sure this is not some type if IPv6 issue.

Also this morning when I tried had to go a manually set the APN as I mentioned earlier. Set with AT commands but still had to set in connection profile.

Not sure how to proceed. One thing that jumped out at me is "rooter" in the connection user name (your screenshot). That field is normally left blank best I recall.

At this point I would reflash, resetup and try. There have been so many tweaks, it is at a point where I would reflash and reset up.

Yes, that would be the method I would use. I would do the reflash twice as Jim Helms has recommended and even talks about it in his sleep :)

@gscheb already got the links together for the t-2 firmware here: https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?p=14305#p14264

As @gscheb pointed out, some people swear by this method (do NOT use wifi): https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=5 Little different method and would try this if standard firmware does not fix issue.

After you reflash a couple of time and restart, here is how I set mine up.

Make sure you save & apply after time set and also in step 3.

1) Set the system time.
2) Set the APN in modem connection profile to VSBLINTERNET
3) Set the APN via AT command:

Code: Select all

at!entercnd="A710"
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","VSBLINTERNET"
at+cgdcont=1,"IPV4V6","VSBLINTERNET"
4) Got idea of my towers available bands via cellmapper
5) Create at least one of the active bands (13 is usually a given):

Code: Select all

AT!BAND=0A,"V13",0,1000
6) Set the band:

Code: Select all

AT!BAND=0A
7) Reset:

Code: Select all

AT!RESET
8) Wait about 2-3 minutes and power cycle.

After I get working, I then explore more with the which band combo works best.

SUCCESS!

I downloaded and flashed using the newer WiFiX version from the link posted above, 2x.

Then I followed the instruction set below:

1) Set the system time.
2) Set the APN in modem connection profile to VSBLINTERNET
3) Set the APN via AT command:

Code: Select all
at!entercnd="A710"
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","VSBLINTERNET"
at+cgdcont=1,"IPV4V6","VSBLINTERNET"
4) Got idea of my towers available bands via cellmapper
5) Create at least one of the active bands (13 is usually a given):

Code: Select all
AT!BAND=0A,"V13",0,1000
6) Set the band:

Code: Select all
AT!BAND=0A
7) Reset:

Code: Select all
AT!RESET
8) Wait about 2-3 minutes and power cycle.

I also set TTL to 64.

Speeds in screenshot are via hardwire Dell Laptop to LAN4.

Speeds on iPhone via wifi were roughly 1/2 versus hardwire.

now that I have service, should I send any of the following commands?

The following commands associate verizon's/visible's bands with a name your MC7455 can use to pick specific bands to connect to. Visible uses verizon's 2, 4, 5, 13, and 66, but MC7455 doesn't support band 66.

at!band=0A,"B2",0,0000000000000002 : band 2 is now associated with 0A
at!band=0B,"B4",0,0000000000000008 : band 4 is now associated with 0B
at!band=0C,"B5",0,0000000000000010 : band 5....
at!band=0D,"B13",0,0000000000001000 : band 13...
at!band=0E,"VZW (All)",0,000000000000101A :notice the 101A, this is a binary representation of all the band values above.

Depending on your area, you can set the bands. If you only have band 2 for example, you can set: at!band=0A,
Just sub 0A, B, C, D, or E.

at!band=0E will enable your MC7455 to connect to any bands/aggregate them for better download speeds. I have this enabled in my area since I have all of the bands. NOTE: if you don't have all of the bands "associated" using the above codes, using the at!band=0E command above will not work because the binary number (101A) will be different.

Wonderful news! Glad you got it working.

If I were you, make a backup of my current settings and save to safe place. That way if you can reload working setup at any time.

There is a spread sheet that Jim Helms put together that is best to use https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=16 ... stom+bands

Before you start making changes, you really need to make a backup. Then try to use cellmapper to find bands on tower.

Did I say make a backup, lol

ok, will follow your advice. Thanks to all who assisted me. I really appreciate everyone's help.

the blue oval with yellow inside is approximate location where this device will be based. Looks like bands 2 and 13?

If so, what exact sequence of commands should I enter?

Did you check out:

There is a spread sheet that Jim Helms put together that is best to use https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=16 ... stom+bands

There is a complete tutorial on how to use the spreadsheet and combine bands.

You really should take the time to read that and learn it, will help you save time.

Code: Select all

at!entercnd="A710"

AT!BAND=0B,"Verizon-2,13",0,1002

AT!BAND=0B

AT!RESET
Wait couple of minutes and power cycle.

I took this directly from the spreadsheet:

Good got it to work.
Cell mapper is famous for being wrong.
What I have done is lock to one band at a time to see what I got. Then write down which ones I got.
Are you satisfied with those speeds?

Just used the spreadsheet to program a group of bands, 2,4,5,13.

Speed test hardwired is 19Mb, wirless its 11Mb.

I guess I am happy with those speeds. Not watching 4k videos or anything. Should I be happy with them?

You might lock one band at a time and test for day each. Find the one that is best or leave as is.

It basically boils down to how congested your tower is. 25-30 down in my area is good. When really congested not unusual to have 10-12 down.

Just a matter of finding the best combo for your area and your needs.

Hello again,
In my opinion if you are going to include all of the Verizon bands don't really get any use out of making a group of bands. Could just leave it wide open all bands. Usually only use a group of bands when want to exclude one. In the past have excluded band 13 since it is typically the slowest and tends to get more congested than the others. Have done this specially when my primary band was locking to 13. (but your situation could be different)
Far as being happy with the speed. We all get caught up in these speeds test and performance stuff. But at the end of the day can you do what you want to do. If you do want more speed would look into getting outdoor antennas and/or a EM12 Modem.
Once again this is just my opinion. Seems to me see allot of issues with EM7511 and EM7565. My personal favorite modems are the MC7455, EP06, EM12, EC25-AF. Just wish the Quectel modems had some thing like the at!gstatus?. Where you can check the signal strength in both antennas. If they did would just exclusively use Quectel then.

If I leave my em7455 open for all bands, it craps out. Hence the reason of only using verizon bands. Even the other tutorial states that. Maybe you will have different experience.

Yes I do have different experience for sure. But never used a EM7455 before. Maybe there is a chance that is the difference. Who knows! Thanks for posting that

What EM/MC card are using with Visible?

I have tried a few different models and for some reason they all crap out in less than a day went using all bands.

I am not sure of the origin and quality of the existing cellular antenna. I wonder if swapping out for a better pair of paddle antennas would improve my signal reception? I saw a pair on The Wireless Haven for 20 bucks, should I try them?

For the speed you are currently getting with visible and using "stock" antennas, that is not bad. So any little improvements /tweaks is going to just improve. For $20, I would try. I have heard of people constantly getting 50 down, 24/7. No so for my rural tower, but mine works great for streaming ;)

Not bad at all for stock rubber ducky antennas. Looks your main band is 2 and CA is 5, very good. Room for improvements, but I know people that would love to just have that:)

If you do a download speed test and send at!gstatus? soon as test starts (might have to do send at!gstatus? twice), should show your CA active. I usually get two separate windows side by side, easier to see what is going on with speed test and router.

Look at the red highlighted text. See how that one is so high. Still think there is something up with that. Bad wire or something. That used to the main signal that was that bad before ericj205 switched them to get the main better. If you fix this issue think your speeds will go up. Would consider replacing that little pigtail wire that goes from the the modem to the rubber ducky antenna. Not very expensive experiment.

Very good point. Was not involved that troubleshooting.

Got it working, now tweak and play till you have the best :)

On small mobile screen this morning and cannot see image real good, but make sure you get the right pigtail for your EM7455. The connectors for modem end are smaller than the MC7455. Ask at the store if you are unsure.
