Beware the power supply

Post by FreeRangeRedneck »

First, just wanna send thanks to The Wireless Haven, hacks, and Jim. We are all addicted
to good data now. :D

Now, for the observation.

Beware the power supply.

We put together two setups with 12-volt 2.5-amp supply, WE826, and EM7565.
One worked well, the other not.

After a lot of testing with different combinations of parts, looks like one
of the 2.5-amp supplies was the problem.

What was the problem with the one that didn’t work?

Slow data rate, high ping times, and sometimes no service...

Took apart the 2-amp supply that came with the WE826 to remove the
DC-side wire and connector. Noticed that the solder work was poor.
One leg of an electrolytic cap pulled out from pushing slightly on it, and
the other leg had a bad solder joint, but enough to mechanically hold.

Anyway, put the harvested cable into a 6-amp supply that was sposed
to come with a 2.1-mm jack, but instead came with a 2.5-mm jack.
The WE826/EM7565 combo is running well, just like with the 2.5-amp
supply. Hmm, maybe a fan for the case?
