novatel usb551l issue receiving sms

sorry, i originally posted this in the wrong section i think... so im reposting it here in the correct section, sorry for the mistake

original post:

so i have the novatel usb551L from verzion, and its connected to my windows desktop and im able to connect to it over COM port and send AT commands, and im able to set sms mode to text, and im able to send sms, and im even able to get it to notify the terminal when it recieves an sms, but im not able to read sms.

AT+CMGL="ALL" gets a response of "ok" and nothing more.

when i set it to notify the terminal of incoming sms with AT+CNMI=2,1,0,0,0
it says ok.
then when i send a message to the device's phone number i get:
+CMTI: "SM",3


so naturally I try to read index 3 and...

AT+CMGR=3

+CMS ERROR: 321


so then i checked storage and it says the only available storage is sim card and the sim card can store 0 text messages maximum
AT+CPMS?

+CPMS: "SM",0,0,"SM",0,0,"SM",0,0




what the heck is going on here? how do i view messages received? if it really has no where to store the messages, why cant i get it to send the message to the terminal, instead of just sending a notification?


any help would be appreciated

I usually run:

AT+CMGF=1

then

AT+CMGL="ALL"

To ensure it's using memory on device/modem to store: AT+CPMS="ME","ME","ME"

Yeah I know, i said that i used that command and it said ok but didn't list any messages. and then i explained that upon querying the sms storage location, the device says it saves msgs to the sim card, and that the sim card currently has 0 messages out of a maximum storage size of 0 messages....

I appreciate you taking to time to try and help, but unfortunately, that doesn't help =/

Yes, but you didn't mention the CMGF command, that was all I was saying. the CMGF=1 always seems to be required before running the other.

I don't mess with sms on modems much, and that is the limit of what I've done

yeah, i see i didn't mention in my post that I set the modem to text mode with CMGF=1 before doing the rest of it, my mistake.

I've gotten this to work on the fibocom 850gl but still not with the novatel =/
