Wireless nightmare
Hi. I wasn't sure where to put this so I stuck it here.
In a period of 24 hours, these wireless devices at our home have stopped working:
(3) independent La Crosse wireless weather stations
(1) Accurite wireless indoor outdoor thermometer
Wireless remote car starter
Wireless hospital bed
Every device had worked fine for more than 10 years. And all quit at the same time. We suspect interference of some kind. But the only new device, a humidifier, makes no difference on or off.
The remote car starter will work if you walk up to the vehicle and do it. Not from inside the house like it always did. The weather stations will all connect to their wireless remote sensor but then disconnect shortly after that and stay disconnected. The bed will not work no matter what. I tried new batteries in all the device remotes and they made no difference.
Any suggestions on what might be going on is appreciated. Or what to look at to resolve it. Thanks

Re: Wireless nightmare
Just an indication of how crazy this wireless problem is. Before we realized it was many devices having problems, we thought the 1st La Crosse weather station had bit the dust. So we bought a different brand(Bozybo) weather station to replace it. That remote sensor will only connect reliable to the base unit if it is within a few feet of it. Walk away 6 feet(still line of sight between them) and it will disconnect before too long.

@ Jimbot
What have you done (mods) to the devices that supply your other devices with internet?

Re: Wireless nightmare
Are your issues only with the wireless devices? Are any of the wired devices you listed having any issues? How close are neighbors? If its strictly wireless devices then it sounds like someone is stepping hard on your specific frequency bands. Are you using 2.4 or 5 ghz wifi and which bands of each? You may try to change your bands and see if that helps. I'd most def. say interference unless your wifi transmitter has failed. Load up a wifi app on your phone and see what ssid show up in your area. It possible they have ssid hidden but the strong signal should show anyway I'd assume. That would be first step if not already done so.
Re: Wireless nightmare
Thanks for the help guys. Yes, only those devices I mentioned aren’t working. None of them use wifi. The problem devices all talk directly from a base unit to a remote. One neighbor is pretty close. Maybe 100 feet away. It is a university(Quinnipiac) housing rental so people come and go with the school year. We have both 5 and 2.4 wifi. The Bambu printers will only run on 2.4. I had to add an access point for them.
Re: Wireless nightmare
I guess I'm a bit confused as to what you are implying? So the wired devices are also having issues? If I was having this much trouble I would probably try to start from scratch and turn off / unplug everything and start with the very minimum. You might start with just your internet router and your phone and maybe 1 wired device such as a pc. Make sure that is working properly and continue from there. Maybe even cut out all wifi devices and make certain you have a solid connection using only a wired device. You can then add each router, switch, repeater one by one and make sure it is working properly. That about the only way I can think of to try to track down the cause without going in circles.
Re: Wireless nightmare
Looking back at my initial question, I have to apologize. I put this request in a “router” section of this forum. And it is not, as far as I can tell, a wifi/router issue. None of the devices in question use wifi. I didn’t see anywhere appropriate to put it. It is a wireless issue. But of what type I do not know. I was hoping someone could see a common connection between my various troubled devices. Thanks for helping.
Re: Wireless nightmare
YES! My bizarre problem has ended. We have multiple TV's in our house that show us our outdoor TV security cameras. The system is wired with those RCA type cables everywhere. Except the TV in our kitchen which did not have that type of input. So I had bought a HDMI video converter years ago for that TV. Our neighborhood lost power from the last storm. When the power came back on, that TV didn't work. I narrowed it down to that converter. So I bought replacement. We immediately noticed less interference on all the cameras. So I said, maybe that thing was our main problem. It was. Every device that would not work now works again. Like I said that device was there for years. It must have been slowly dying and the power interruption finally killed it. Thankfully. So lesson learned, if you're going to buy cheap no name chinese electronics, strange things can happen. I had no idea a small device like that could put out enough RF leakage to disrupt an entire house's worth of electronics.
