Is it recommended to update to the latest Generic firmware for your modem?
I'm currently running the 9191 in a usb3 sled connected to goldenorb x86 7/7/22 autobuild on t-mobile phone plan
from what i understand you can load multiple firmware to the modem and then select a preferred carrier
Is there a specific advantage to loading the carrier specific firmware compared to the generic? I am mostly concerned about there being additional tracking with the carrier FW.
from what i can find on sierra's site, SWIX55C_03.09.11.00 is latest generic while SWIX55C_03.09.06.00 is the latest t-mobile approved revision.
I am currently on "SWIX55C_01.07.13.00" which seems very old in comparison.

Re: EM9191 Firmware Recommendation
The Sierra 5G modems have an issue with multiple firmware images right now. Still unsolved. You CAN load multiple carrier profiles, called PRI Images, but they must match to the single available modem firmware image version to work.
So far the only image that works with all major US profiles is an old fw version.
Personally Im having problems even getting a single fw and pri to update to the latest release. I cant figure it out just yet.

Re: EM9191 Firmware Recommendation
I haven't run into any issues loading FW tbh, I wish I knew what to tell you to help. I just used this script that I found in the store documentation.
put it in the .bat and double clicked it in the same folder as fdt2.exe,GobiApi.dll and the latest windows drivers installed.
Code: Select all
cd /D "%~dp0"
fdt2.exe -d g5k -ignswto -prto 120 -resettimeout 3 -timeout 15 -f SWIX55C_03.09.06.00-001.cwe SWIX55C_03.09.06.00-001_TMO_030.035_000.nvu
