Issues with WG3526-P communicating to the modem

Howdy Folks,
Thanks for all of the help so far. I've finally got decent internet thanks to this forum. Now I'm onto my last remaining issue. I have a WG3526 coupled with a mc7455 installed in the PCI-e slot. I'm running the latest version of r00ter. The problem I have is that randomly the router will lose the modem, and will give errors trying to access /dev/usb1 binding. When this problem happens, rebooting the router with the soft reboot doesn't fix it. I need to physically power cycle the device by removing the PoE cable.
This is particularly tricky, as the ping monitor forced reboot doesn't fix the problem. It has occurred about 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Has anyone encountered this problem? Should I try a different firmware, I know there is a custom build floating around can someone IM me a link? Does it look like I have defective hardware?
