Netgear MR1100 "Mobile Broadband Disconnected"....

Hi,

I recently bought a used Netgear Nighthawk M1, put in my T-mobile sim from my phone to test connectivity and it worked fine in the Nighthawk.

Tried again a few days later and now it displays the message "Mobile Broadband Disconnected". I've tried firmware restores, downgrades, factory resets, setting APN, etc.

I've been searching around and I can't seem to find if this is fixable or not but seems to be a common problem. Anyone here have any luck getting this thing to work again?

I've included some AT cmd output if that gives any additional insight:

What APN are you using?

See this for clues

I've tried the fast.mobile.com and other apns listed in the post and rebooted after setting each, no luck :(

I have the unbranded M1, guessing this thing is blocked from TMO... Or I perhaps need request a static IP for this sim like the person did in that post.

Hopefully AT&T is an option for you.
The nighthawk is AT&T’s choice of modem.

The other carriers try to blacklist it.

Not saying you can’t get to work on other carriers it’s just harder.

What talk with AT&T and see if you can get 100 gig of data for $50 deal.

They block it after it catches their eye, you need to make it look like a phone using phone data and not a hotpot, specifically a M1, then it can run on the network undetected.

I've had this happen to me, and what I found out is that the router was consuming hot spot data, and not cellular data. Check if you have ANY internet connection, even if the speeds are 0.5 Mbps.

Also try tethering it directly to a computer via USB, with NO other device connected. See if you re-gain internet.

Idk if that helps, but that's what happened to me, now mine is using normal celluar data again and not hotspot when I tether it directly to my desktop.

Late update, I had thrown the M1 into a drawer for while after trying to figure out how to fix this problem.. finally fixed it today :D

The issue apparently was IMEI related. Did a "IMEI repair" and now it works again. I guess somehow the IMEI was erased when I was flashing different firmware versions, since the repair tool showed no IMEI. So if anyone has the problem, check if your device does have an IMEI!

@Rich Hathaway

Is there a existing guide for spoofing a phone with the M1 somewhere I could follow?

No, I don't think so, sierra devices are difficult to work with, much more so than others, so I think maybe people don't work on them much.
I personally do it by patching the kernel so it is permanent, I am sure there are other ways to get it done as well.

Ah, that's too bad... It seems setting TTL is enough, I managed to set it on the M1 by getting root shell access, it appears to be bypassing the hotspot 600kbps throttle now.

If anyone is wondering, as root on the M1, I just run this command "iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING 1 -j TTL --ttl-set 65". My M1 is connected to an ASUS router and working fine so far. I also made a script in the /etc/init.d to run the iptables command at boot so it's semi permanent at least.
