Confusion

Newguy here. Been reading up on LTE internet equipment and related stuff. Have a -90 signal inside with a booster. Visible (Verizon)and Mint (T-Mobile) phone services. Just bought a GL-X750V2. I really haven't tried anything yet. Is there any chance of making this stuff function? Where do I start?

Make it work?
What have you done so far?
Visible is pretty simple to get working, Mint might be a tad harder.
What did GL.iNet support tell you?

I have done nothing so far. Kinda got cold feet and didn't want to screw something up.

lol, understood.
You gotta get rockin. Its pretty easy to recover these devices.
I have no experience with GLi devices firmware. I always see people telling others to flash goldenorb firmware to them for cellular use.

I think I have enough info for my antenna install from another thread. Maybe can attempt this weekend.

Now I need to decide on a data plan. I let Mint expire and am using Visible on my phone so i don't want to take out the SIM. Verizon seems to be better signal here. Should I get another Visible SIM or maybe try someone else on Verizon network?

Get another SIM. Buy a cheap phone with it so that you have a fallback test unit and an IMEI you own that you can use if needed.

OK. Trying to get this to work. Visible SIM works fine in phone. Wireless connection is strong and connected. When in GL router I get "SIM card not registered" Is this one hard to setup?
Already changed apn to vsbleinternet and applied. What should I try next?

Per Amazon review
A: Currently, X750V2 supports T-mobile and AT&T only, sorry for the inconvenience!
Verizon is #1 in network and #1 as poop
heads about it

Great! I guess I screwed up! What do you suggest? Which router? Is the modem card usable?

That’ a loaded question.
It depends on your goals, needs and budget.
It’s like asking what’s the best vehicle.
Depends what you’re hauling.
Kids, lumber, or babes.
A two seater convertible sports car is fun but not always practical or affordable.

I believe apn is vsblinternet (no E)

I want something to replace my Hughesnet satellite account. Probably be a while until Starlink is available to me.
Can afford $200 or so if that is what I need. I think my outside Antenna setup is OK.
ATT and TMobile really suck at my house.

Should I buy something like the WG3526-P from The Wireless Haven? Can I take the EC25-AF out of the GL-X750 and use it?

You could use the ec25 but it is a lower end card that is not capable of doing carrier aggregation, making it a much less optimal choice, but it would work.
The wg3526 is what I use and its an awesome unit but at a cost of 160 I fear that will not leave you with enough budget to complete the project. Simce your on a booster now that means your likely on a single antenna with a single cable run. The recommendations for a good solid lte router setup would make use of (2) antennas with 2 seperate cable runs of high quality low loss cable.
I will leave it to the mods in here to give specific recommendations but you would need at minimum the following:
A router
A modem
2 pieces of high quality low loss cable
2 antennas
possibly 2 pigtail adaptors (depending on cables you use)
A more correct budget to really do it right might be $400+ (including everything). Again I am sure one of the mods with their specific recommendations will help with pricing as well, my setup ended up being about $500
That said I havent put a penny more in in well over a year and it does everything I need in an area it was otherwise impossible to make a decent call much less get decent internet.

I already have a 2 directional Wilson antenna array setup with separate low loss cables that I built for the Router/Modem. All I need is a router and modem.
I think I will go ahead and try to return the GL and buy the WG3526-p. What would be a good moderate priced modem to use?

The Sierra MC7411 is a good unit that covers many bands. If you want a little more power and carrier aggregation, the EM7565 is a good unit. The EM12G is too, and covers B14.
All good cards.

Lot of good advice the only thing I can add is get the “-P” version. This will give you the option to add PoE (Power Over Ethernet) at a later date.
Keep it simple,
Go slow and ask a lot of questions.
The only tricky thing I see is you only have one carrier as an option and it’s Verizon

Thanks. this sounds like good advice. The modems cost a bit more than I thought.
What about a lesser priced router? Would it be better to spend a little more on a modem and save a little on a router?

The NEXR5GO will fit the bill. Cheaper, still poe capable.
Trades down to 100M ethernet, but up to way better wifi capability.
You can go with a Quectel EP06 or EM06 if you want. Cat6, 2x CA. The EM06 has B41.

I decided on the NEXR5GO. It looks like it should do whatever I need.
Now for the Modem card. Is there any one that is easier to get working than others?

The NEXR5GO is a nice unit
The Antenna connections are non-standard
May need to replace the pig tail cable. The WG3526-P has standard SMA connectors.
Every Decision has pros and cons.
Both units will serve you well.

That can be a matter of opinion. In my opinion from what i seen that was suggested you the Quectel EM12 seems easiest to me. Less command lines to do thing compared to sierra wireless units. Also you can set them up for auto reboots. Can't do that with Sierra wireless they usually require a power cycle.
Also have seen allot of new user loose their comm port drive on sierra wireless units. Me included!

Went ahead and ordered the NEXR5GO with the Quectel EP06-A from The Wireless Haven . Maybe not the latest and greatest, but it seems to be a pretty common choice.

There is a QR code on the label that takes you to the available documents.
Post here and I can guide you through anything. It's not hard, just unknown to you. No worries, we've got you.

I have an ep06-a as well, in a different router but should be able to help with some of the basics like band locking and such

Yeah, that'd be perfect. Maybe we can turn the new thread into a tutorial. But don't post there, I can move it when done.
