that is strange, it is usually root:[blank] or root:admin, but sounds like you tried those.
did you try doing ctrl+f5 in the browser to try and clear cache or using a different browser? just to make sure.
did the wifi information reset back to default?

After a factory reset, I have to attach to the modem via Incognito mode (Chrome) or Private mode (firefox) to get into it.

Incognito mode in the browser and use
Works for me when all else fails to act right.
Also make sure your PCs eth port isnt set with some static IP that isn't needed, AND isolate your PC. IE: turn off wifi and remove all other internet/router sources from the PC.

On your computer, do the following:
Get an ethernet cable, and hook it up from your laptop to one of the ethernet ports on your router
Next to the windows icon (bottom left), click on "type here to search"
Type in: Control Panel and click on it when it comes up
Click on: Network and Sharing Center
Click on: Change adapter settings (near top left)
Right click on: Ethernet, drag down to properties
Double click on: Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCIP/IPv4)
Click on the toggle for: Use the following IP address and enter these values:
-IP address: 192.168.1.7
-Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
-Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
Click on the toggle for: Use the following DNS server address and enter these values:
-Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8
-Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4
Click on OK
Click on OK
You now have a static IP. Open up firefox, then click on the drop down to start "New private window"
In the address bar, type in http://192.168.1.1
DO NOT let the browser auto fill out anything, manually type the whole string in. You can also try Microsoft Edge or Microsoft IE to avoid cache issues.
