VPN Setup

Post by Hillbilly »

I have a ZBT WE826/MC7455 running the WiFix firmware on the Sprint Network. I have a Roku which I use to access Playstation Vue. PSVue uses your IP address to determine which channels are locals. Sprint's IP locations jump around all over the place. One day the IP address may be Nashville, maybe next Chattanooga, next Houston, Atlanta, Little Rock...rarely the same place twice in a row. So PSvue thinks I'm traveling. Occasionally, I get a message from Sony that I need to log into my local network in order to prevent a pause of service. So I take my tablet to work and login through NewWave just to keep Sony happy.

I have an instance of Private Internet Access VPN running on my personal computer. Is it possible to install the PIA VPN on the router and lock it in to one specific location? I would prefer Evansville, Indiana or Louisville, Kentucky but any one location consistently would be an improvement. Does a tutorial exist for this task? I've tried doing a forum search but "VPN" does not yield a valid search.

You can use almost any VPN service, and pin it to a local server. The only downside is you are going to kill your throughput due to encryption overhead on the VPN, and having to route all your traffic through it.

You could maybe use the VPN to verify your accounts, and then just disable/disconnect when you don't need to do that?

Is there a particular VPN service that works best for this by the way? What are your experiences like?
