NEXR5GO EM12 about to be in my lake

Hey guys,

I really need some help before I throw my setup in the lake.

Here is what I've done:

Yipzy helped me to get my EP06 and EM12 to work on Visible.
This is what I did. Should be same process for EC25-AF

Before you start this might want to set back to OEM state if you been putting other commands in to start off fresh.
AT+QPRTPARA=3 (modem to its OEM state)

AT+QMBNCFG="AutoSel",0 (stop Autoselect config on sim detection)
AT+QMBNCFG="Deactivate" (disable MBN config)
AT+CFUN=1,1 (reboot the modem)
AT+QCFG="usbnet",2 ( MBIM protocol)
AT+QCFG="nwscanmode",3,1 ( 4G-LTE only)
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IPV6","VSBLINTERNET" (Has to be ipv6 only)

After this the TTL that works for Visible is 64

Also for good measure copy and past this shown below in to custom rules
Tab to the left of custom TTL settings called custom rules.

#start TTL rules
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 64
iptables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 64
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65
ip6tables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65
#end TTL rules

Still get nothing. I've done it twice.

My LTE light is not on.

If you want me to post anything from my modem/router on here for you let me know where to find it if you can. I'm very new to all of this and have been working on it on and off for the last 3 days.

Thanks so much

That was a copy and paste. I've not spoken to Yipzy

Just make sure, based on your previous posts, we are clear on this new post:

You've got a Quectel EM12G, a Visible SIM that has been activated and confirmed working in a cell phone, and a NEXR5GO router with stock MOFI Paddle antennas? (I didn't see which antennas you have tbh)

@Didneyworhl -Thanks for the response. I was reading your thread with the other fella that has the Cricket plan and ran those AT commands you told him to try for the APN I thin? Anyway, I got the same results as him on that.

I have used the same sim in a MoFi 4500 and it worked but was slow. I now have the NEXR5GO with the stock antennas it came with, no paddle, just the round ones and can't seem to get it going.

Is there any information I can give you off of my setup that my answer any of your questions?

Cell service here is not bad. I just live in an area where I either get internet through an access point or satellite. The MoFi did okay and I got speeds of 8-10 down but I was told with my new setup I'd get way faster speeds.

Thanks for the help

Just out of curiosity and no disrespect but I've been reading a few posts of people not being able to get their setups going. Is there a chance I'll be able to get mine working? If not I need to order something that works out of the box. This is all foreign to me. I'm an AV and Security guy so I never delve into the cellular modem world. I'd love to learn though. Anyway, is there a chance that I can actually make my setup work and where can I learn more

I'll get a mock setup going to mirror yours and see what I find. You used the Visible SIM in the MOFI and it was good is what your saying? triple checking.

@Didneywhorl yes sir. I was using TTL 65 at first and couldn't get anything over 5 I switched to 64 and got up to 10-11 sometimes. I've seen people get speeds on the 4500 in the 30s-40s but never broke 9-10. I can get 30 in my iPhone 7 with the sim. I was told the iPhone had a way better processor than the MoFi so it was suggested to me to purchase this setup. I am currently on Hughesnet and am being throttled right now. I think I'm pulling 1 or less down right now. Please help me. Thank you

Hello
Do you know what bands you have available to you on visible?
For example when I set up my uncles he had bands 2, 4, 5 and 13 available. Have his set up with a EM12 as well. It does 3 band carrier aggregation. Well left on it's own it kept putting band 13 in the mix of the carrier aggregation. Where he is band 13 is slow and congested. (it commonly is in allot of areas) So set up a band lock set to lock to bands 2, 4 and 5. Excluding the slow band 13 from the mix. That made his increase in speeds.

My MoFi showed I had 2,4, maybe 5, maybe 13 and 66. I think 2 and 4 worked best at my house.

How do you check? I guess I have to be connected to LTE to test that though right?

Someone said the APN might be wrong but not sure what it's supposed to be

would think if the apn was wrong you would get nothing no data thru.

Only way I know how to do it is lock it to one band at a time and see what you get. And right it down on a piece of paper. Could check this on the mofi if that is easier for you.
Verizon bands = 2.4.5.13 and 66.

I returned the MoFi and am not sure how to do a band search on the NEXR5GO. I'm sure it's done with an AT command though

This will allow all Verizon bands except for band 13.

AT+QCFG="band",0,2000000000000001a

After you do this will need a power cycle if it isn't connecting afterwards.

Maybe this will help your speeds out.
Let us know.

@gscheb thanks, I'll give it a try. If that doesn't work can I pull my sim out of my iPhone (Sprint) and try that?

Should I throw a Sprint sim in this bad boy? If I should where can I find the AT commands to configure EM12 to Sprint?

@Didneywhorl I've been reading through posts and it seems several people are having issues with Quectel and Visible. Have you noticed this? I spoke to sales at The Wireless Haven before I purchased the setup and the rep said this was a good setup so I ordered it. I guess I'm doing something wrong. Maybe day 4 will be my day. Thanks man.

Have set several Quectel modems on visible.

Which antennas, that are connected to the modem, are you using?

@Didneywhorl I'm using the round thin antennas that have the LTE stickers on them. Came with the unit. When I put the SIM in my iPhone 7 I have 2 to 3 bars of LTE at any given time. I don't think that reception is an issue. Where should I go to see if I can/should be seeing some kind of sign of life?

@Didneywhorl also, glad to heat Quectel and Visible have been working for others. So there is hope. I've become pretty proficient at locating things on the setup so hopefully we can get this bad boy going soon

Do I have the wrong antennas? A fella from Wireless Joint FB page said since I changed out the pigtails for the antennas that the ones that came with it don’t work anymore. Is this my problem?

Richard Jones from Wireless Joint FB page helped me figure out I have the wrong antennas. When I swapped antenna pigtails I guess the stock antennas don’t work anymore. Looks like they are both female and I need my antenna to be male. Ugh. I was hoping I wasn’t that dense

LoL. No worries! We all do it.

Yeah. For whatever reason those routers were made with the same style antennas for LTE as for the WiFi. I think they will be changing that to avoid this exact problem.

I think these are basic stock type replacements:https://thewirelesshaven.com/shop/antennas/4g-lte ... male-pair/

and these are a small upgrade in dbi I believe: https://thewirelesshaven.com/shop/antennas/4g-lte ... ennas-sma/

Both should work for you.

I got my antennas and installed them. No go still.

How can I even tell if my modem is okay? I did an update on my EM12G modem that Quectel Tech sent me via USB drive.
I then did this.

I found that you also need to run the following command before setting right APN:
CODE: SELECT ALL
AT+CGDCONT=1;+CGDCONT=2;+CGDCONT=3;+CGDCONT=4;+CGDCONT=5;+CGDCONT=6;+CGDCONT=7;+CGDCONT=8;+CGDCONT=9;+CGDCONT=10;+CFUN=0;+CFUN=1
So updated instruction that worked for me on latest GoldenOrb + EC25-AF modem + Visible $40 unlimited LTE:

1. Set the APN in Connection profile to "VSBLINTERNET"

2. Reboot ROUTER

3. Run the following command in Modem -> Miscellaneous:
CODE: SELECT ALL
AT+QPRTPARA=3
AT+QMBNCFG="AutoSel",0 (stop Autoselect config on sim detection)
AT+QMBNCFG="Deactivate" (disable MBN config)
AT+CFUN=1,1 (reboot the modem)
#wait 30 seconds for modem to reconnect
AT+QCFG="usbnet",2 ( MBIM protocol)
AT+QCFG="nwscanmode",3,1 ( 4G-LTE only)
AT+CGDCONT=1;+CGDCONT=2;+CGDCONT=3;+CGDCONT=4;+CGDCONT=5;+CGDCONT=6;+CGDCONT=7;+CGDCONT=8;+CGDCONT=9;+CGDCONT=10;+CFUN=0;+CFUN=1 (set all other APN slots to empty)
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IPV6","VSBLINTERNET" (Has to be ipv6 only)
4. Set TTL to 64

5. Also for good measure copy and past this shown below in to custom rules
Tab to the left of custom TTL settings called custom rules.
CODE: SELECT ALL
#start TTL rules
iptables -t mangle -I POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 64
iptables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j TTL --ttl-set 64
ip6tables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65
ip6tables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i wwan0 -j HL --hl-set 65
#end TTL rules
6. In Miscellaneous set Current Cellular Mode : 4G Only

7. Reboot ROUTER again.

I still have nothing. How can I make sure my modem is even good?
I know my way around the interface pretty well now but I'm not seeing that I have any type of signal. Where would I find that and what am I looking for?

Thanks guys

It seems I do get signal so I just can't get internet going. I ran an AT command that showed me about 4 different ratings of signal so I guess I'm good there

Great writeup...

The following command always returns an error on the EM12. The rest of the contexts are fine, but #1 always returns an error.
AT+CGDCONT=1

Were any of you able to run this command?
