Hi all -- newbie here and apologize if this is common knowledge BUT

Just got a MOFI4500-4GXeLTE-SIM7-COMBO 4G/LTE Router. Before it arrived, I felt like I saw a tutorial that explained how to 1) turn off MOFI4500 wifi and 2) turn the two wifi antenna spots into outdoor antenna receivers, in order to create 3) a 4x4 MIMO setup.

Am I just imagining this? Or projecting onto some other hardware? If something like this is possible, please point me in the right direction.

Many thanks in advance!

C

It's not that simple... That cat6 modem in the mofi isn't capable of 4x4 mimo, so first you'd need a much more expensive modem (cat16 I think is the baseline for 4x4), an adapter to install the modem (newer modems are m.2, not mpci-e), and at that point you might as well sell off the mofi and start over with a real router.

Thanks for the real talk! I am wondering now what modems support 4x4 MIMO -- can't seem to find a vendor for CAT16 or CAT20. Any suggestions?

Quectel EM160R-GL (elusive, new, working but in development?)
Quectel EM20-G (not easy to acquire, no longer in production, engineer sample module)
Telit LM960A18 (available, new version compare to Telit LM960, reputable vendor)

There's also a Sierra cat20, but it is expensive AF. Then there's the Nighthawk M1 and Mifi 8000 hotspots (cat16), but the 4x4 only works with the internal antennas as they only have 2 external ports.
