DELL DW5811e (Sierra EM7455) with mPCIe adapter

Anyone tried DELL DW5811e (Sierra EM7455) in an older laptop (like E6440 and E6430) using an mPCIe adapter?

I'm thinking of buying one but I'm afraid that vendor lock is too strict and also locks to notebook type instead of just the brand (Dell). Basically, I would like to use that in a Latitude E6440 with an M2->mPCIe adapter. I also know about the AT!USBMODE hack I will have to perform as older laptops only have USB 2.0 on their mPCIe pins.

Could this work? Anyone has experience?
