EM20 Antenna Connection and commands?

On the EM20 there are 4 Connections
M M1 M2 and D/G
if only running two antenna's which should I use?
Is there any benefit of running 3 ? or does it have to be 2 or 4?
Is there a command to see the signal strength of each antenna?
My old Sierra modem had a nice status comannd that showed that info.
these commands I found do not work for me
Modem Status
AT+qnetdevstatus
AT+QNETDEVSTATUS
AT+QCAINFO < CA Info
they all error out.
I found a list of commands here someplace and copied them to a notepad, but can't find the link here again.
any help would be great.
thanks

I’m pretty new to this but I have the same modem tried to only attach 2 antennas and couldn’t get it 2 work now I’m not sure if that was because I had the wrong 2 combination of pigtails attached to antennas or if it was because I didn’t have all 4 attached. I have 4 attached now and it’s working great. Any reason why you don’t want to use 4 antennas with this modem?

You'll want to use M and D/G, though the em20 is meant for 4 antennas, it should work.
There is no command to see each antennas signal strength. The command does exist (AT+QRSRP I think) but the EM20G does not support it, and Quectel has placed the device in development limbo for now. The Quectel EM16GL-R should be is successor.

Does the 16 in its name suggest it’s a cat 16 modem? Did they get too ambitious with the cat 20?

It is a cat16 modem.
Dunno. Maybe? Its a great modem, I'm guessing they set its price point low and still didnt have mass commercial orders. The EM160 isnt much cheaper.

AT+QRSRP is supposed to be in the available commands but Quectel never implemented it. Confirmed by Quectel directly.

Hello,
Looking for opinions about the EM20 performance from people using one.
Is it worth it upgrading to it from say a EP06 or EM12? That 4x4 Mimo get worthy gains?

The correct format is:
Code: Select all
AT+QNETDEVSTATUS?
AT+QNETDEVSTATUS=?

Fyi both of those error out as well, starting to regret this modem purchase. It was working fine for about a month, we pretty impressed , then it just stopped connecting. now without many commands to see whats going on im at a loss. its just stuck on connecting, it sees the sim code but never connects.

Maybe it's time to reset it to factory but make sure you issue a command to save your backup. The command is somewhere on the forums. You could also try to downgrade or upgrade the firmware.

From the EP06, absolutely. From the EM12 and is teh 4x4 worth it? Depoends on your needs. If you live under a full function low congestion cell tower that is giving all sorts of speed, then no. EM12 w/2x2 will rock over 300Mbps down. If you have signal issues, and even with max signal are only getting meh speeds, then a bumped up modem and extra set of antennas might give you some more oomph to your setup.
