5G antenna options

Post by redapse »

Hi there,

I'm digging into the research here and have noticed a few 5G modems that are for sale. Do you need a special antenna for these though? For example, T Mobile's 5G n71 band is 600mhz but it's hard to find an antenna that supports that frequency. Any other considerations when it comes to 5G in regards to antennas? I'm trying to invest in the right equipment that will get me through for the next year or longer.
Any suggestions if someone is already doing this?

Thank you

For 5G routers/modems, you may want to take a look in this thread.

For 5G sub-6Ghz bands, you can use standard external LTE antennas, all those bands should be covered.
As far as external 5G mmWave antennas, they don't exist for a couple reasons. One, the technology is too new, and two, the signal loss in cables between 40-60Ghz would be greater than the gains you would realize.
