Modem vs cellphone

I’m using a CBA850 modem with either the standard modem or an upgrades em7565 with a t-mobile unlimited 50 dollar plans.

When I run the speed test on my laptop connected by Ethernet I pull about 7 MPS consistently. Running the same test on my iPhone 11 and my iPhone pulls down closer to 15 MPS consistently.

Is that expected? I was under the impression that by default that a modem would be stronger then a cell phone with its default antenna.... Or is that only the case once I setup an out door antenna or play around with the bands etc?

I can add screenshots later with stats but it looks like generally in this apartment the Sinr, rsrp etc all fall in the poor range :/

Hoping that changes when we move to our new house (why I’m doing all of this)

Well, the iPhone 11 may have a slightly more sensitive modem (Intel chipset) than the EM7565 (Qualcomm shipset), including band 71 (a Tmobile band) which is missing on the EM7565. Now, whether or not that band alone may account for the speed difference, it's hard to say, but phones in general are pretty optimized for good signal/speed. You could try tethering your iPhone to the router, first make sure to disable the internal modem in the router in the interfaces menu, then connect the phone via a usb cable and go to Settings > Cellular > USB Tethering (or something to that affect). This would tell you if it's the router that's causing the lower speeds or the EM7565 modem.
